Hello -
I had a generic question regarding spousal sponsorship and visit visa. I am a Canadian PR, getting married in April 2011. Upon my return to Canada, i will sponsor my wife´s PR - which can take 5-8 months. Is it possible for my wife to apply for a Canadian Visit visa so that she can return to Canada with me after marriage?
What are the chances of her getting her visit visa?
Should i ask her to apply now as a single or wait till after marriage to apply as a married woman?
Appreciate any help i can get
regards
adam

(in reply to: Spousal Sponsorship and Visit Visa) You asked "What are the chances of her getting her visit visa?"
Slim to none.
Stick with plan "a". Marry her, come to Canada, sponsor her and then she can come to Canada as an immigrant not as a visitor.

Thanks (in reply to: Spousal Sponsorship and Visit Visa) Thanks for that.. does she stand a chance as a single (fiance to a PR holder)? She has a lot of uncles and aunts in the country.. can i invite her as my fiance?

(in reply to: Spousal Sponsorship and Visit Visa) DO NOT invite her as your fiance - it will be the kiss of death to your visitor visa app.

visitor visa (in reply to: Spousal Sponsorship and Visit Visa) Recently i married and wants him to come to canada to visit while the immigration for permanent residence is completed an submitted......get a visitor vis if you want her to come before you submitt your prmanent residence application you can do all the paperwork together and have her here for 6 moinths...but she will not be able to work or go to school if she comes as a visitor. Not only that but it matters where she is from as to how long the procesing times are. Good luck my husband it took 30 days for a interview for his visa and he´s from algeria!

RE: visitor visa (in reply to: Spousal Sponsorship and Visit Visa) (in reply to: Spousal Sponsorship and Visit Visa) Eloela - Thank you for your email. Just to clarify - did you state he was married to you when you filed for his visitor visa? Or did you let him apply without indicating that his wife is a Canadian Citizen/PR?
I am thinking of doing exactly what you did - i just dont know if i should tip them off that she is married to a Canadian and going to Canada on visitor just for the duration of her PR processing
Thanks again!

(in reply to: Spousal Sponsorship and Visit Visa) She has to declare her civil status and if she has any relatives in Canada, it is in the application and lying is not a good thing specially when it is about immigration.
What is the issue with getting married and sponsor her as a PR so she can come and live here instead of doing what you want to do?

RE (in reply to: Spousal Sponsorship and Visit Visa) DocD- i just dont want to spend more time apart. ive already spent 6 months away (between engagement and wedding). I prefer having her around after marriage rather than living with my parents :) Its a nice to have honestly - and from what ive heard from my lawyer, PR and Visa are two separate things so shouldn´t really impact her PR process even if her visa gets denied. My thought was.. nothing to lose except maybe $100 for the visa application so why not!

(in reply to: Spousal Sponsorship and Visit Visa) in theory, your logic is accurate. Reality is a totally different matter. Be mentally prepared to live apart - as annoying as it might seem - it is faster, cleaner, less risk. Buy a webcam, get yourself on skype, and make the best of it.
really and truly.

(in reply to: Spousal Sponsorship and Visit Visa) Hi Adam, welcome to the club! I´m a PR holder myself and sponsoring my wife. We´ve been separated due to visa issues for over 1 year now. We got married in summer ´10 and since then the visa application is in process. Being separated for so long was by far not the plan: I wanted her to come over before the marriage to show her how I live and that she kind of had a chance to get a picture of what she´d marry into. Her visitor visa was refused - which was not surprising reading through a bunch of other people´s experiences. So we got married without her coming over. As I started a new job in toronto in the meantime and I got a quite limited number of vacation days (I spent some days for the marriage), we have not seen each other for a couple of months now. I was hoping that her visa would have been issued by now (otherwise I would have traveled to her country for christmas) but we´re still waiting...
In the early stage I thought I could move to my wife to live with her during the visa processing. But unfortunately, this is not possible either...
There are days where I really regret coming to canada. Honestly, if I would have known all the stuff I know today about the visa processing and the options we have had, we seriously would have re-considered coming to Canada and instead move to my wife´s country. The longer the waiting time the bigger the regret. But as we´ve been waiting for so long, we keep on waiting as we assume we´re close to getting her visa. But I would not wait another 6 months - that´s for sure....
