Subject: Dual Intent- Self-Employed and Study Permit
  Hello everyone!

I´m going to apply for a Self-Employed visa later this year, but in the meantime, I´d like to go to Montreal and study French (which, apparently, might take 32-52 weeks).

So, these are my questions:
-Can I apply for a Self-employed visa first and right away apply for a Study permit? (I know I wouldn´t need a study permit if I stayed for less than 6 months but, I rather have it and not need it than the other way around).

-Would this be considered "Dual Intent"?
-Would it affect my chances of obtaining my Self-Employed visa?

Thanks in advance for you help. =D

There is no such a thing as a "self employed visa"

Hi again DocD:

I think I might have been unclear in my post. What I meant was the Business Immigration Program, under which investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed persons can immigrate.

Business Immigration Program is not really self-employed as such, it is and it isn´t.

That is based on the intent to start a company in Canada. You need to have a few pennies in order to do so. In your case I think is out of the equation.

The self-employed business you are talking about would be under Unit 5125 (translators) but read what defines a translator and the conditions they have to meet in order to work in Canada as self-employed.

I think is a no go for you in your current situation. If you don´t have enough funds and you need to work, I don´t even think that you qualify as a student. CIC looks very carefully at the funds available for a person that comes to study to Canada.

If your course is not an academic course and it is less than six months, I am pretty sure you are thinking on coming as a turist but once in Canada you can´t change your status from visitor to student or worker in your situation, all that needs to be done from outside of Canada.
