Subject: Sponsoring a parent
I am a Canadian citizen, and would like to sponsor my mother to become a permanent resident. My mom lives in the Philippines.

Can I sponsor my mother only, even if she is still married to my father and they live together in the Philippines? My father does not want to live in Canada, that is why I only want to sponsor my mother.

Also, how long does the process of sponsoring parents usually take?

Thanks!

You want to separate them? Your mom might have a better life here but I doubt she will be happy without her husband...

Yes you can apply only for your mother. Your father will have to undergo medical though he is not going to accompany.

For processing time, Right now first step to get approval as a sponsor (within Canada from CPC Mississauga) it takes about 40 months. and then the file will be transferred to local post that would be Philippines in your mother´s case and I am not exactly sure how long will it take but you can check it on CIC.GC.CA, They have country specific information.

I think you should apply for both of your parents, if your dad doesnt want to come today but going forward he might choose to come and stay with your mom in Canada than to stay alone back home.

Best luck,

Nisha

Also, keep in mind that if your father fails the medical - your mother´s application will be denied. This applies even if you father does not wish to immigrate and is listed as non-accompanying on the application.

Hi, i am an immigrant in Canada and i sponsored my mom as a tourist so she is in Canada for a year now. I´ve applied for an extension of her stay here (super visa) for her to look after my 4 year old daughter. Hopefully, she´ll be granted. I´ve received an email stating that the CIC will accept sponsorship for parents starting on January, 2014. I wonder if i can be able to sponsor her though i am only working part time (on-call) since i am a full time student. Only my husband is working full time..
I hope to hear from you, thank you...
