Subject: Advice needed - UK couple want to migrate!
  Hi all,

I hope you can help.

My fiancé and I have been looking at getting permanent residence in canada however we do not fall into the skilled category as we both work in office jobs which has already reached it´s cap.

We are now looking at other ways to get to Canada as in temporary work permits but if we do this is there a chance to make it a permanent move if  we get a job offer for permanent employment?

It seems as though we are in a catch 22 - we can´t get a visa without a job offer but we can´t get a job offer without a visa. Is there anything you can give us to help or any advice?

Has anyone got any advice or stories of what they did?

Thanks!

In order to work you´ll need a work permit.

And in order to obtain a work permit you´ll first need a job offer and an approved LMO (labour market opinion). Your employer would apply for the LMO. In order to obtain an approved LMO, the employer must prove that they were unable to find a Canadian (citizen or permanent resident) who could either to the job or be trained to do the job.

Unfortunately many/most employers aren´t willing to go through with the LMO process due to the amount of time it takes and the amount of red tape. Plus some LMOs are refused.

The challenge you face is finding an employer who´s not only willing to offer a job, but also willing to apply for an LMO. As you´ve have already found, many employers lose interest as soon as they find out you´re not legally entitled to work in Canada. This doesn´t mean it´s impossible - but it´s certainly not easy.

Long story short - there´s no silver bullet.
