Subject: Spousal Sponsorship. Near completion, but...
So I was told that the Detroit office sent the app to CPC Mississauga on January 7 and there is a "bring forward" date of March 7. I´ve already paid the Right of PR fee but apparently they send a letter asking for it anyway. However, the office in Detroit said confirmation of receipt of the RPRF can take six weeks from the CPCM. So do they mean 6 weeks from Jan 7 or 6 weeks from the BF date of March 7? My wife (she has a job offer as an RN) not working is killing us financially. I almost want to go the work permit route if it would be quicker. Thoughts?

If she can secure an LMO the work permit would be a possibility.
BUT...

There is no guarantee that she will get the work visa though. In order to obtain a work permit she has to prove that she will leave Canada at the end of her employment and having her Canadian husband and an application in for PR may not show a whole lot of intention of leaving Canada at the end of the permit.

The application may take another 8- 20 months to be finalized.

If the CPC requested the payment and you already made it, send them a copy of the receipt showing that the payment has already been made so it won´t cause any further delays.

8-20 months?! With a BF date of March 7? Unbelievable... I thought being an American would make it a little quicker. It started off very quickly. So you suggest sending a copy of the receipt to CPC Mississauga before receiving their letter?

I thought the CPC requested the payment.

No, if they haven´t requested don´t send anything. It takes about 46 days to approve you as a sponsor and on top of that you have to add another 8 - 20 months.

It doesn´t really matter what your nationality is when it comes down to this things, it has to do with the visa office and its processing times.

Seat back and wait.

80% of Buffalo applications are processed within 11 months (luckily Buffalo is one of the faster processing offices for spousal applications). My husband´s was finalized in four months. However I also know an American who is currently in month 11. So how fast yours is processed is anyone´s guess.

The first step (Mississauga approval) is fast for everyone. It slows down after that.

Hello again, I should have clarified that I have already been approved as a sponsor. That was months ago. Meds are done, bg checks are done, at this point the CPC is just going to send a letter re: the Right of PR free (which is paid) and then the Detroit office will be ready to send her the email. That´s what I have been told. Unfortunately that process could still take a couple months it seems.

OK - thanks for the clarification.

I would budget another 6-8 weeks from the time they receive your proof of payment - and then cross your fingers and hope it happens sooner. (Too bad you didn´t pay the RPRF up front to save yourself the extra waiting time!)

I did pay the RPRF! Haha.. wish they could just realize that without sending a letter about it. I´ve got the receipt though if there are any discrepancies. :)
