Is it ok to stay outside of Canada once you lodge your citizenship application?Because I´m going back to my country to look after my in-law until she managed to secure a place at old age home. Current waiting list is pretty long and I´m expecting it would take around a year before she can move-out. So I probably won´t be in Canada throughout my application processing time. Would CIC give me hard time for this?

Explain your situation to the officer with sincere heart.

These are anecdotes regarding recent Citizenship applications.

An Asian lady applied for Citizenship and went back to her home country, leaving ´receiving duty´ to her trusted friend and neighbour.

She only came back to Canada for the test and for the interview.

At the interview, she was really grilled by the officer who was rather condescending. She was given "resident questionnaire."

Her trusted friend even received a phone call from Revenue Canada, "Is Mrs Jane living in your address?"

A family of four, parents and two sons, one of sons was requested RCMP fingerprints and a married couple, one spouse fingerprint or interview instead of the test.

Seemingly random practice.
