I am being sponsored by my wife and I got the aproved in principle letter, and immigration got the med results however the background check has not come back yet, even though I sent it in 11 months ago, I have no criminal record anywhere, and I have never heard of any background check taking more than 8 or 9 months, I am freaking out.If anyone knows about the procedure or if there is anywhere myself or my wife could inquire please let us know.

Seat and wait, it can take 9 months, 11 months, 2 years etc. It all depends how fast CIC can verify some of the information you provided.

CIC has to verify your police record from every country you have lived in for more than six months since the age of 18.

CIC wants to make sure that you are not inadmissible under the Customs and Immigration law.

Ok I understand thanks for the info docd one more question if u can please. I have only lived in 2 countries and I migrated to canada less than six months after I turned 18. I have a trafic ticked for driving un-insured and I had to pay a hefty summ however it does not constitute a criminal offence. other than that I am completely clean. Is there anything that I can do at this point? For all I know someone stuffed my file in the wrong drawer?

I have found that in dealing with the federal government sometimes it is not you that is the issue, sometimes it is the ten (or thousands) before you in the line up.
Sadly CIC and CBSA are understaffed, as are all federal agencies in these financially difficult times.
You probably have no issues, but possibly the person they are dealing with in front of you has lived in alot more countries or has more issues that need to be dealt with.
Please be patient, I am sure that as soon as they know you will know.
