Subject: In Canada Sponsorship - USA Citizen
  Hi Everyone,

I was curious if there are any US citizens in Canada going through the spousal sponsorship process (In Canada). It has been about eight months since our application, and when I call immigration they say that so far everything is okay, no problems.

I was wondering how long has it taken others for first stage approval? I just want to get this done and over with.

I´m reading other people´s experiences, and it sounds a bit scary...

Thanks,

Monty

The first stage of inland currently takes 8-9 months. So what you´re experiencing is normal and expected. See the bottom of this page for current inland processing time lines:

Thanks... I was looking at other people´s experiences and some mention that it took them a lot longer than that. I guess I will have to keep my fingers crossed.

If there are concerns/complications with the application - it can certainly take longer. Definitely keep your fingers crossed and hope for the minimum!

Wait until a government employee opens your application in Vegreville, Alberta and sees that your an American citizen dumping additional work on them instead of submitting through Buffalo RPC as you should have.

Do not be surprised if the Immigration Officer in Alberta says to themselves I´m not dealing with this and forwards your application to the local office where it could take another two or three years just to be called for an interview and another year after that to get landed.

If you would have done your research you would have already been Landed by now if you would have submitted through Buffalo RPC.

Oh well enjoy the wait.

Roy,

According to the instructions in the packet, it is supposed to be sent to Vegreville, it mentioned nothing about Buffalo.

Monty,

What Roy is saying is that if you had applied outland (the recommended route for Americans) rather than inland (the application route you selected) - then there´s a good chance you might have been a PR by now. My American husband´s application only took 4 months to complete via outland. Some are processed even faster (I´ve seen some finalized in less than 3 months).

But that´s water under the bridge now. So you´ll just have to sit tight and wait.

Monty,

I am in the process of all that right now. Did you have to travel back over the US border since you overstayed your 6 months or do you have some kind of visa?
