Subject: Applying for asylum-seeker allowance.
How to prove that I have no financial means to support myself while on asylum claim in Canada? And I frankly do not have any. What are the criteria one must meet to qualify for allowance for asylum seekers?
Am I elligible for allowance when my asylum claim case is pending or only after positive decission?

Why would you be eligble for a drivers license before you applied for one?

(IF) you filed a refugee claim, the time to ask that question was then and you should of asked the gration Officer when you applied for refugee protection.

Contact the nearest welfare office and follow instructions.

If youR life is truly in danger back in your home country, how come you didn´t apply for asylum at the port of entry? when you first arrived?

Why don't refugees apply as soon as they arrive in Canada? (in reply to: Applying for asylum-seeker allowance.)
".... how come you did not apply for asylum at the port of entry when you first arrived?"
I have always found this to be a very odd question, but some people seem to think that if you are a real refugee you declare it at the very first opportunity, even if you have no idea what will happen if you do; even though the immigration people at the airport are dressed like police officers and some of them are even carrying guns; even if that makes those officers look like the same people the refugee is afraid of in the home country; even if those officers are in fact the ones who execute deportations (scary thought for a genuine refugee); Even though the refugee is probably physically and emotionally exhausted and passing through the airport is probably an extremely stressful time; Even though doing so puts you at risk of removal from Canada which scares you silly. In my experience most people put off anything that stressful until they feel like they know what they are doing or are less stressed. Some people do declare they are refugees at the airport, but one human being cannot be relied upon to do the same as another even if they are both fleeing the same problem.
The question why someone did not make refugee claim obviously makes sense to a lot of people, but I don´t understand why. It is basically asking someone why they did not do something that is really scary. The answer is built into that question: because it is really, really scary.
