Subject: USA Citizen want to move to Canada
Well I am a Natural born USA citizen I have been in search of moving to Canada for about a month now. I found Numerous resources online but it is way too much to read and understand. My Question is about Employment. The only way I can see myself being granted residency is by finding job in Canada, Or transferring to A college which I do not wish to do.

How can I find employment when no one will even take a second look at me as an american. I am in the clerical Field Executive assistant/ Admin assistant. I have 5 Year experience in this field. I am at my witts end with trying to figure out way to relocate. I have friends In Canada all over that will help me. I am currently Enrolled In French Classes and trying to immigrate the right way.

You are going to have to read and have to understand it.

Having friends is Canada is nice from the adaptability point of view but it does very little when it comes down to immigration.

You have to be elegible and meet the selection criteria in order to immigrate to Canada.

Take the time and read:

www.cic.gc.ca

There is no other way around.
Comes down to basically three options:

1-Immigrate as a sponsored family member
2-Immigrate as a provincial nominee
3-Immigrate as a skill worker if you qualify

To echo what DocD said, you really need to familiarize yourself with the various options available to you. Those of us who have been through this have all done extensive reading and research. There´s really no way around this (apart from hiring a lawyer or consultant to do the work for you) if you are serious about moving to Canada.

If you are interested in going the employment route - then I think you should be aware this will not be easy. As a first step, you´ll have to find an employer who´s willing to offer you a job. As a next step, your employer will have to advertise your job on Canadian job boards to prove they can´t hire/train a Canadian to do the job. Assuming no one qualified comes forward, that employer will then have to apply for a Labour Market Opinion (LMO). If the Canadian government approves the LMO, you will then apply for a work permit. Assuming your work permit is approved, you can then move to Canada to work.

As you can probably see, the process is quite involved and time consuming. In fact, many Canadian employers aren´t willing to go through the LMO process because of the amount of time and effort it takes (this is why people aren´t interested in you as soon as they find out you are American). As a result, you will probably struggle to find someone willing to hire you (doesn´t mean you shouldn´t try - just be prepared for rejection). And remember, even if they are willing to hire you, they still have to demonstrate that they can´t find a Canadian to take the job. This is very difficult to prove for clerical roles.

Good luck. And again, you should really read up on your options.

If you have friends (all over) go visit some especially is Saskatchewan and sell your skills to an employer in that province then apply through their process.

If an employer offers you employment you can apply through their Provincial Nominee Program.

@Roy That is probably one of the places I don´t know anyone. I know people In Montreal, Ontario , Vancouver, New Brunswick.

Can I ask you another question.... Do you think it would be easier to secure a Job offer If I went there in person even though I am a US citizen as apposed to filling out Online?
