Dear Sir/Madam,

It is CIC policy to treat all applications in the spouse class as priority, regardless of the nationality, race and religion of the principal applicant. However, statistics shows, and this is confirmed by my experience in immigration, that US spouses in the Buffalo RPC have been processed within 6-8 months. Check a couple of cases reported in this forum.

Cases in which the applicant is a non-US spouse take slightly longer, from 10-18 months. I don´t want you to believe that this is discrimination. This is mere "coincedence." Remember, we treat all cases the same.

Sincerely,

ozz...do you think it is because the background checks take longer?

Yes, background check seems to be the the only reason. I have seen at least three cases that shared my same timeline or that applied later than me, and they have already joined their loved ones.

As an aside note, we contacted the MP, as you kindly suggested and he´s being really helpful, at least in updating every week the progress of the application.

Thanks Sharon!!!

Do they perform background checks in all cases, or when they suspect something might be wrong or suspicious?
