The US officers were right. These two travelers behaved like idiots. What the hell were they thinking?

So DocD would you ask a potential temporary resident which stores they are going to visit if they claimed they are going to see the West Edmonton Mall?

Power hungry children, shameful. You supporting an idiot asking a married man a question he would never know or care about.

Which stores are you going to shop in.

That will clearly show that he intends to be a valid visitor and plans on returning back across the border to his own country, town/city, life, place of employment, children, parents, etc..

Men go as fast as they can into a store, make their purchase, and run for the exit. Or R U different DocD?

I read the article & looked at the audio & all it boils down to are a couple of men & their egos and I must add the abuse of power.

Is it not lawful to speak back to an IO or is it not? Not because they have the law on their sides give them the right to abuse it & abuse people. The entire event was not necessary.

I went to the states to shop the Canadian I/O at the border asked me where I went I said Buffalo. He asked for what I said shop. He asked me where in Buffalo. I asked him do you mena the stores I went. He said no, Buffalo is a big area, where?, so I told him I do not know I can check the papers that I have with the addresses then I can tell him (since I did not know the exact name of the different towns). He then changed his line of questioning. I guess there is a reason they ask these qestions but they need to be civil & respectful with people & not treat everyone like suspects

UnQuote "So DocD would you ask a potential temporary resident which stores they are going to visit if they claimed they are going to see the West Edmonton Mall?"

If I smell something fishy, yes. I don´t care what stores they are going to visit, I want to find out if that is the actual reason for their visit. That´s all.

Do you really think that every person who wants to cross the border is telling you the truth?

One thing is the audio, but the other thing is what the officer read in his/her body language.

The officer felt that the story didn´t match what he saw.
He has the right and duty to verify if he is an actual shopper.

If the visitor says, he is going to walk around the mall, probably the next question would have been, what do you do for work and how much money are you carring and then he would have been on his way to the mall.

BUT NO!!!!!!!!!! He raised his voice, he was very defensive, did a minor assult to a federal officer and told an officer that he works with enforcement agencies in Canada, I think his attitude ain´t helping his story....for someone who works (supposedly) with enforcement agencies in Canada he knows that the whole attitude towards this, is the wrong approach unless.... he is not telling the truth and he is lying about working with enforcement agencies in Canada, what else is he lying about?!

That human behaviour will trip some alarms...right there.... those are the details that officers are train to read on people.

So is he a real shopper? maybe he is one of those smart pants out there with nothing but a big mouth......or maybe not.....50/50.

Having traveled extensively, I think that anyone who:

a) tries to argue with border guards

and/or

b) uses sarcasm such as "what are you going to do, shoot me?"

is a massive idiot.

US border services asks me those questions all the time. If it is a female officer, we might have a minute to joke about what the sale is at Macy´s but generally, they are doing their job.

I would consider it foolish to be a smart ass. Would you risk such behaviour in other parts of the world? Great way to get shot.

The question that started everything was which stores are you going to shop in which any woman would already know and the two could have a chit chat about which shoes are on sale for how much but not men.

This is not a logical question for any man.

If he was asked when do you plan on returning are you staying over night, do you two have reservations and if so in which hotel, etc. then the border officer would have something to research.

Granted shooting ones mouth off even when you get pulled over can get you arrested but the ones enforcing the laws have ethics too!

POWER and the next thing you know some Cop is saying this is not Canada or USA today because they have the power.
