Subject: question for CIC applicants
I want to try and understand what motivates many of you to wait 3-5 years for Canadian PR. Can you tell me what you think Canada can offer you and what you think your life will be like when you get here? I really want to know.

Hi Sharon:

This is a very good question. I am from India and lived in Canada for about three years now. I am sharing my thoughts with you based on my observation and experience in Canada.

1. Money talks: 1 CAD = approx 36 Indian rupees
2. Good life: Extremely clean environment (air, water etc)
3. Well behaved society: I love the Canadians
4. Functionality: Well organized
5. Kid´s paradize: Enornous scope to learn

and many more...

It is such a great country that we are ready to compromise on many things: the harsh winter, our social culture, our family and friends back home.

Love Canada.

Kool

dear Kool... is your life the way you imagined? or has their been some mental adjustments about expectations along the way? are you working in the field you were trained for in India?

Dear Sharon:

It was a big cultural shock for me when I arrived in Canada three years ago. Things were distinctly different from India. I was missing my country and own people very much. But it did not take me a long time to be adjusted with this society. People are so help motive - you just need to ask somebody what you are looking for.

So far I am in my own field because I am still a student here. I am quite happy what I have got so far in this country.

One has to believe himself. I am pretty confident that I will get every thing in this country what I am thriving for.

Kool

My salary in India was amongst the top 5%. Here, my income is probably in the lowest 5%. But still I am happy with the way I am living here.

Hmm, I would agree with kool and say that is the motivation to come and live here.

Today, here i am married with 2 kids and me and my husband working with pretty decent income. I feel that what we earn is all gone though. Its because of children day care, high taxes etc. I feel end of the day everybody is working hard, taking the culture and weather shocks but the living standards is still not good. I would say people who are young can save and also people whose kids are grown up can save with less tensions in life.

Hello Sharon (in reply to: question for CIC applicants)
Sharon,

Who would want to move from their home? However; sometimes you need to seek further horizon for a better life and opportunities.

Canada offers an opportunity. I don´t say our countries do not. However a simple thing as an opportunity to come back to education after some years of work is not possible in countries such as India.

Things such as a quality Medical treatment are a luxury; at least in Canada it is expensive (in terms of tax you pay towards it) but you can afford it. You can provide a high quality lifestyle for your family and children. I mean this is one reason alone to immigrate to Canada. Moreover; at work you are rewarded for your efforts and there are laws to defend your rights.

Everything above is also available in other countries but it is outrageously over-burdened. A lot of people compete for same resource.

However; that is our strength - we have learned to survive and work hard. No wonder you´d see several immigrants from India etc. have had some level of success wherever they have made home. We have learned to excel or at least do our best in whatever we are given; honestly and with nothing left to desire. Not at the cost of where we have made our home. Most of us have been very flexible and have adapted well in our new society.
Finally; this is a win-win situation for immigrant and their new country?s economy as well!! They get highly skilled ? well trained professionals for free!! What Canada does is evaluate the ?future value of present dollar?. Remember the Corporate Finance lessons? Yes; Canadian society helps us settle and invests now; but we all reap benefits for years to follow. The point system is nothing but evaluating what Dollar investment now is most likely (with high probability) to give a highest return.

On the other hand what about our home country? Did they loose out on investment they made on us? However; I´m glad to say most of us keep ties with our country - we take all opportunity to send resource for help of relatives; friends back home. I have been out of my country what now 10 years (left right after high school for education) and have stayed over 4 different countries in Europe and N America and have remained in close touch with my country.

Moreover; the world is becoming so close - globalization means we all will have be mentally prepared to move wherever it takes us for a better opportunity. We have to be flexible; scarce are the rigid that stand tall and remain such!!

I hope you see insight of at least one prospective immigrant - perhaps a visit to a country in Asia will help you understand better!! Anytime you are ready let me know and I?d be more than glad to help you with a detail travel plan!!

Take Care,

Just to add a few lines I should have added to my reply...

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I;
I took the one less traveled by,

...and that has made all the difference.

I am hoping more will answer...even if it means we must go to page 2. Thank you everyone.

I tell you why I ask this question. I read some of our posts and I feel like Canada is not giving people what they expected. They sound so betrayed. Sometimes the applicants are angry and they have not even arrived yet! I want to try and find out if it is the country that is failing or is it the unrealistic goals and expectations of the applicant. Maybe both?

All I am is a Canadian citizen wanting to get his wife (not a Canadian Citizen) and his kids back together so we can be a family again (apparently not a CIC priority to preserve families-bust ´em up and keep ´em busted up should be their motto). We "moved" back to Canada, and are now realizing this may have been our biggest mistake yet.
Oh well.

Grow up in Regina S.K, education from grade 12 to Bachelor. Only work experience happened in Canada. So far feel not bad in Canada, lots of friends in Canada. Sometime have culture shock with my Chinese friends just came to Canada. Don?t think I will get to use of Chinese ways of life anymore. However do keep some Chinese lifestyle, drink tea, use chopstick, only Chinese food in my daily life.

Why wanna immigrate to Canada?

1. My gf is Canadian; I have family here for 1 year already. We often go to skiing in Mt Washington, watch sunset on depaturebay, fishing in Port Alberni, it seems perfect life for me. Well, can?t imagine what happened if we have a kid. I save money for Van, house. You can?t let your girlfriend and kids live in basement.

2. Have a so-called job, no need to go back, certain income, not too much, enough for my family.

3. Love my community. My town is a music town, life can not be going on without jazz
4. wanna be Canadian idol in the future.

There are millions of reasons why I should immigrate to Canada

My only motivation to go to Canada is reunification with my family (Canadians). Nothing else. Besides, my wife has better opportunities in Canada than in my home country. She´s a blue collar worker. In Canada, at least she is treated with dignity and there are laws that protect her. Therefore, she does not want to change her status: "When the mountain does not come to you, you go to the mountain." As for myself, I would have been financially and socially better off in my home country.
