Did he enter Canada illegally - is that what you mean then it is a bit tricky. If so does he have a valid work authorization now? In case he does then I guess he has nothing to worry since he must have had an adjustment of status.
I guess for that please call up a consultant or a lawyer who can better help.
We all are but mere ?simple-minded? legal applicants who are merely consoling each other while we sit ourselves through this agonizing wait, while CIC awards each one of us at its own time. I hope it is not posthumously though!!
