I can not believe the new Policy changes by the Conservatives. Kenny even supports showing ones face when one votes yet current laws do not require photo ID to be presented nor restricting overseas ballets where no face or photo is required.

Highlights of the 2011 immigration plan include a higher range of admissions for spouses and children in the family category.

Highlights of the 2012 immigration plan is a lower range of admissions for (grand)parents in the family category.

5000 (grand)parents per 2500 applicants.

as our skilled worker population swells... so will the family class applications for those who come alone and now want to bring spouses, parents etc. Makes sense to me. There still has to be a ceiling to the total number of non-economic applications. So, more spouses and children (which are deemed priority) means less moms and dads.

Not really rocket science.

Sharon you can not look at it from not the point of view that you already have your parents or Spouse in Canada. In many instances Parents or a Spouse (non-economic migrant) can make any new Immigrant far more productive.

Behind every single successful Man is a Woman with quality advice and vice versa.

Your new to Canada and worked real hard to get ahead and your NOW a success. Now you want to bring your parents here so that in their on coming old age you will be able to take care of them. You have been told that IRPA 3 (1) (D) that reunification of family is a corner stone of the Immigration act and as it states in IRPA it is an objective of the Immigration Act.

It is also your culture and ethnic responsibility to take care of your parents when they start getting older.

Former Minister of Immigration Codere stopped all processing of parental sponsorships (Liberal) for eighteen months and told NO ONE not even his fellow MP´s.

Canada as a country should be able to reach some form of compromise by allowing those parents Sponsors who are willing and force sponsors legally to cover more costs.

Compassion has to be common sense.

Economic Immigrants cheat on residency!
Sponsored Spouses cheat to get admitted due to wait times!
Sponsors of Parents abandon their responsibilities!

All not true and some true.

Should we build a really high wall around Canada and dig a moat on our southern border and fill it and our Oceans with warm blooded crocodiles?

I am almost ready to state the Conservatives are using the economy or fears about the economy to gain votes for the upcoming election by Immigrant bashing.

It is all about votes.

Quebec is the main battle ground so behave like France and you get votes. Give them a NHL quality arena and you get votes.

I say enough, stop the politics.

Of course some non-economic immigrants are a drain and others are a benefit.

When an economic immigrants business grows because of a few words spoken at the right time from someone who is trusted and respected is something that is extremely hard to measure.

We need to have a more tender heart but at the same time a process that prevents others from abusing the system we currently have.

I understand your logic and sentiment - however, it is the government´s job to make sure immigration is more than bringing Moms, Dads and spouses to Canada. If they were all employable, with language skills - by all means but you and I both know that is not generally the case.

I am often surprised at how few skilled workers become part of the overall annual quota.

Personally, I don´t think this is politics at all. I understand that you live with the heartbreak of family class issues every day - and you are good at it and the system needs people like you. However, someone needs to climb up on a ladder and look at immigration from an unemotional and impersonal perspective to ensure that what we need as a country is what we actually get. If the electorate do not like the policy, there is an election coming up. I am not convinced that any of the parties would dramatically change the annual quota, nor the balance between economic and family class applications.
