I really need some advice here. I´m an American citizen that was stopped at the London airport, was treated horribly by one officer who made me feel like a drug smuggler because I accidentally had an unmarked bottle containing congestion medication. The whole thing is really complex but basically I was coming to spend the holidays with my bf...never been to Canada, no criminal record in the states...nothing.

They decided to "send me back" and not charge me with anything...yet, I was read my "rights", handcuffed, and taken to a max security prison where I was cavity searched TWICE and put in a cell with 6 other women. I have never been to jail, never been arrested...I haven´t even had a traffic ticket in 5 years...yet here I am in Canadian prison after I was told I wasn´t being arrested.

They told me I was going to be "deported" back to the states. What they really did...was buy me some tickets that needed a flight coupon AND they put the pills back in my suitcase. I surrendered them back to the officers. Why did they give something back to me that was apparently illegal for me to be in possession of????

Once back in Detroit, I found out that my next departing flight had left and I needed to rebook. Guess what? Flight coupons! The ticket they gave me was not valid without it. Oh, did I mention they kept my ID? Yeah..

Again, there´s even more to the story but basically, even with a lawyer´s help they did not let me cross, told me I had too many pairs of shoes...

So, now my relationship has fallen apart, I´m suffering for MASSIVE PTSD which I am having to get therapy for...my life has become a mess because of this. What can I do?

You must have been detained at a low minimum security immigration holding or detention centre.

No unmarked bottle containing congestion medication shall be carried!

No. The "detention center" I was taken to is classified as a maximum security prison for adults. Trust me, I looked it up. I had already signed the document saying I was voluntarily withdrawing my application to enter the country (I wasn´t given a choice) and THEN handcuffed and taken to a prison...taken out the following afternoon and put on a plane under the guise of deportation.

I get the whole unmarked bottle issue, I do...HOWEVER...it was very clear that wasn´t even the issue when I tried to re-enter 2 days after (and after hiring a lawyer to make sure that I had not been barred from entering for a certain period of time and that I was at that point legally able to cross the border) at Winsor. Not once was I asked about the medication, I was no longer in possession of it, I was not charged, I carried a letter from my lawyer (which no one would even LOOK at)...and yet, I was denied because I had too many shoes and wasn´t carrying $1,000 in cash???

American detained innocent people in their highly secured jails/detention centres. Now when american was detained in CBSA detention centre , american is crying! Buddy go tell your government to stop detaining innocent Canadian at their boarders.
Unmarked bottle law was introduced by your home land security agency! go curse them!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not sure of the location where all this happened. If there is no detention centre around and the only facility is a High Security Prison, the answer is yes. There is where you are going to end up until you are sent back.

You were deemed inadmissible since you didn´t appear to be a genuine visitor. Too many shoes, not enough cash, not sure of what your plans were and on top of that you were visiting your boyfriend. When visiting Canada you have to prove that you have no intentions of staying in Canada permanently, you have to prove that you have enough ties to your home country.

The officer actually was pretty nice to allow you to withdraw your petition to enter Canada. You were not technically deported, you were refused of entry which is not the same thing.

If you were deported, you would never be able to enter Canada without a TRP.

You were not even excluded which will ban your entry for 1 year.

I don´t think the unmarked bottle was the root cause of your issues.

Just FYI a letter from your lawyer really means jack when it comes down to border crossing.
Don´t hold your breath on that.

Uhhh..you should read more about US laws...as I have about Canadian laws. We can´t arrest people without charging them for a crime. You don´t get read your rights unless you´re being arrested. You can´t just put people in jail without charging them for a crime. They can be HELD up to 24 hours if there is probable cause. Otherwise they can sue for arbitrary arrest or detention!

I was not being charged with anything, AT ALL.

Drama Queen? (in reply to: CBSA sent me to max. security prison w/o charge)
Okay...you get thrown against a wall, made to strip, bend over and cough in front of a room of officers....twice..watched as you shower.. and get thrown into a jail in another country in a cell with a chicks that have done serious crimes....and see how you do.

Yeah, PTSD...it´s really fun when the whole thing plays in my head like a movie and I can´t stop it. Or when I´m out driving and a police car is behind me and I have a panic attack and cant stop crying. Or...how about the insomnia? If it was a walk in the park and I wasn´t so severely messed up from this..you think I would be thinking about it or talking about it? I rarely do as it is. Ask my effin´ therapist´s Sharon.

People throw the term PTSD around far too quickly. It is an insult to those who suffer for years and years from serious reactions to war, torture, stalking, etc.

I get that...but you don´t know me and what I go through on a daily basis because of this. Just because I wasn´t in a war doesn´t mean that this didn´t affect me enough to cause it. I´ve been to numerous doctors and diagnosed 3 times. I´m not the kind of person who would exaggerate something so serious. It´s not a laughing matter and I don´t throw it around loosely. You just have no right to call me a drama queen.

While I feel sorry for you and for any human who has been suffering, I can remind you that USA has supported, unconditionally, our dictator in EGYPT, for 30 years. USA (CIA) has used EGYPT as their favourite location for secret detnetion, torture and even killing of innocent people. This is no secret any longer. In return, they supported the corrupted dictator and we have been paying the price
