Subject: Work Permit/SIN#/Unemployment
What a mess, my work permit expires at the end of March, I am a seasonal worker and my work resumes in mid April. On-line, the site for work permits advises you to re-new your work permit four weeks before it expires. I re-applied 7-8 weeks before. Unemployment advised me that I needed a new work permit or my benefits would end end of March. I was told at the counter that having proof of the renewal was not enough, when my wife called the call centre she was told the opposite. I also need a new SIN card as this one expires along with the work permit. They will not issue a new SIN card with proof of renewal. The work permit office is behind in their work and it could be another two months before I receive my work permit. Can the Government not work together on this. WOW and they wonder why people are frustrated. My wife was born in Canada and even she can´t get over the complexity of getting service.

You need a valid work permit to get a valid SIN.

You can´t get a valid SIN with renewing your work permit.

Therefore, your EI will end as your current work permit expires at the end of March.
