Cairo Patriot - your last comment in a recent thread required me to respond.

I´ve been following very closely your well-deserved successful struggle for democracy. So have most of my fellow Americans, who have been cheering for your victory with 24-hour a day broadcasts often live from your capital city. American journalists risked their lives to help tell your story of struggle to the U.S. and the world.

So it saddened me to see you now criticize one of the first western countries to back your movement and goals. Pres. Obama took a huge risk in pressuring your former president to step down and start the transition to democracy - immediately. Pres. Mubarak accused Obama of interfering in Egypt´s internal affairs. Many leaders of long-time allies in the region gave the U.S. notice that abandoning Mubarak would threaten good relations with the U.S. Nevertheless, Obama went ahead and backed you and your cause.

So please don´t blame American foreign influence for your dreadful 30 year situation. It´s your country, not ours, and whatever government you tolerated for those 30 years was greatly the result of apathy, indifference, and willingness in accepting the system. Only now, with the help of Facebook, Twitter, and the internet, have your people become empowered. Tunisia was the spark that helped ignite.

So I think a little wiser perspective of the situation, and who really supported you in this revolution from the first day would be in order, before now biting back, after you´ve reached your success, at that very same support. American foreign policy of the past is not the same now.

I have been intently following twitter over the last 6 weeks in the lead up to the revolution in Tunisia followed by Egypt. In one breath ´where is the US´ in the next breath ´US, butt out´. Richard is right - at the end of the day, each country is responsible for who they allow to govern. That is true for the past 30 years and that is true in the years moving forward. If you don´t want someone else meddling in your business - don´t ask for help.

The next countries will have a much harder time. Everyone has become and expert. Everyone thinks they understand the root causes, the dynamics and the outcomes. I am hopeful that simple people will follow their hearts and do what is good for themselves and their families - nuts to everyone else.

Richard,

Thank you. I know where you come from and all your points.
We don´t blame anyone (AT THE MOMENT). We are taking care of our country from now on.
We know our country,... we know our rulers , we know our dictators..and finally we know also who support them.
You have to accept the fact:"although you have democracy and rights in USA and WEST, ..although we can never compare ours with yours, You still have big barriers between politicians and people". Politicians are something and American people are something else. You are not G W Bush..are you? Politicians word does not necessarily mean the CURRENT. Obama may be differnt in your eyes, but when it comes to Middle East issue, they are all the same old coins.
So, again I hope you realise now that politics are politics everywhere. Middle East has been unfairly treated in the past 65 years. Middle East is a fire Ball, we like it or not. There have been accumulations of errors in US policy towards this area. US has started to acknowledge the past errors...it can be too late..but better than nothing.

Coming back to the point I mentioned in that post and that has raised your concern. YES, the USA and CIA have used secret detention centres in Egypt to interrogate and torture suspects. USA and CIA rely on their strong allies in the area (the Dictators). They use the secret location, to avoid long term legal laibility by practicing the torture on foriegn land (NOT USA land)...hahahhahah. This is not a secret and you can google it. I can give you example from Canada. Google Maher Arrar, the Canadian from Syrian origin.
Be most assured that we are taking care of our country. We know it will be long struggle and it will be a very difficult re-birth of our country. All what we need is to be left alone. So we have our eyes open on who is a politician in USA and who is an ordinary US citizen, who may be himself or herself a victim of own politician. To make my point clear, we may have thousand reasons to prosecute G W Bush as a war criminal, but we stll love Michael Moore...we still love Richard and sharon.
