Subject: How do I sponsor my spouse?
  Hello everyone,

I am a Canadian Citizen and I got married last year in Pakistan. I want to bring my wife to Canada as soon as I can because [1] She is pregnant and Pakistan has very poor medical facilities; I want my wife to have a good and healthy pregnancy and delivery. [2] It is very unsafe in Pakistan, particularly in the city wherein she resides with her family.

We, together, applied for her visit visa from Abu Dhabi during our honeymoon in the United Arab Emirates in January 2011, but her application was refused because of her not having any travel history and blood-relatives in Canada; due to which the officials at the Canadian Consulate in Abu Dhabi concluded that they have no guarantee as to whether she will return back to her home country once her visit visa has expired.

Now, I have no choice but to sponsor her. But, the problem is, that I was a student and unemployed before I married her in the September of 2010, and we were on a honeymoon between then to the January of 2011. That is to say, I have not worked for the past 6-7 years, the only part-time job I had was for a month during my high school years in 2003.

I am willing to be employed to sponsor her but I believe that it is required to have a 12 month employment history before one can sponsor his/her spouse? So, how can I sponsor her? And if I can´t then is there another possible way to bring her to Canada with me?

I was thinking that since she is pregnant now, maybe she can apply for a visit visa again because her case would be much stronger and thus her application will be accepted? And once she is here I can perhaps sponsor her while she is in Canada?

What do you guys advise I should do?

Forget about the visit visa, it is not going to work. She has no ties to her home country and the risk of her staying in Canada if approved is too high for an officer to issue a visa.

There is no minimum requirement for you as a sponsor. The trick here is to prove that your relationship is genuine.

In other words, get a job, start the paperwork and bring her over.
Forget about the visitor´s visa, it is going to be a waste of time and money.

12 Month Employment History (in reply to: How do I sponsor my spouse?)
Would that mean that I will have to work in Canada for 12 months before I can sponsor her, or can I get a job now and sponsor her right away? I was told that having a 12 month employment history in Canada is a requirement for sponsors, is that true?
