Subject: Can I re-enter to Canada by Car without PR card
I landed to Canada at Niagara Falls in June 2008. After staying for 4 days, I returned to US to continue my study.

Now, I want to permanently stay in Canada. This time, I will choose Detroit/Windsor port to re-enter Canada.

I didn´t stay 730 days for the past 5 years.
I did not apply for PR card
I only have my own country passport and Confirmation of Permanent Resident (IMM 5292).

May I know that if I can drive my car to re-enter Canada border?
Do I need to apply for Travel Document for PR abroad?
Is Travel Document used for one-time entry to Canada?

Sincerely,
HCT

If your passport has no visa requirement, you can always enter on that alone. COPR should also be sufficient to enter. Once there, even if you didn´t stay 730 days in past 5 years, if you live there for the next 730 days your PR status would again be valid.

It doesn´t matter if his/her passport(nationality) requires a visa to enter Canada, he/she is driving.

You don´t need a visa or travel document if you are driving to the border. Those documents are required by commercial carriers. Bring your CORP and passport (the CORP will speed up the process).

You will face a bit of a delay but you will be good to go in no time.

I never heard of being able to enter Canada without a visa for holders of passports requiring visas, just because entry is by car. That doesn´t make sense.

So, a passport holder of Iran can enter Canada at the border without a visa if entering by car? I think DocD is way off base here.

Clarification. Of course if the traveler has a COPR or PR card, no visa is required even if holding a visa-required passport. The way the response was worded, it appeared that ANYONE normally requiring a visa who appears at the border by car could enter.

This means that I do not need to apply for "Travel Document for PR abroad" because I am a landed PR, landed on June 2008, who has a valid passport and COPR with me and I choose to drive my own vehicle to Canada.

Is this sound right?

Of course I am talking of a Permanent Resident who is seeking to return to Canada by driving to the border.

This is what the topic is about isn´t it? Why would I talk about a foreing national who is not a PR of Canada?
