Subject: can my brother or parents sponsor my spouse?
I am a Canadian citizen living in the US (not a permanent resident of the US) I married my husband March 2009 and we ended up having a child here and I was unable to go back to Canada because I was pregnant and my contract job had ended. So I decided to stay in the US with my husband seeing as he has work here. I have now been in the US from Nov 09 - present.

Now we are wanting to move to Canada, buy a house up there and both find work when we get there. We are saving for a house right now and will be able to put a very substantial downpayment down. We will stay with my parents until all the kinks are worked out. But because I am unemployed currently (and cannot get a job here because I am out of status) and a housewife I am worried they will refuse my sponsorship? Is it possible for my brother to be a co sponsor? Or can my parents to sponsor my husband to come to canada seeing as they both meet the income requirements? Or will I have to move back up there and get a job first?

This is all very confusing, any help would be very appreciated. Thank you in advance.

No, your brother and parents cannot sponsor your husband.

You can still sponsor him though, you should do it before both of you move to Canada. The application may take anywhere from 8 months to two years.

Once he is approved as a PR then the entire family can move to Canada. You should register your child at the Canadian Embassy as a Canadian citizen.

Do NOT attempt to move back to Canada with your husband before your spouse is approved as a PR. There is a very high risk and he will be refused of entry.

Read the applications, fill them and follow the procedures if all this is too much for you then hire an immigration consultant to help you out:

Thank you for the fast reply! We are not intending to move there together until he gets his PR, the other option is me moving up there and finding work as well and then him joining me once he gets approved. I hear it´s faster to apply outside anyways?

One more question. I ended up in a tough financial situation while I was in the US and left some unpaid canadian debt under 5000$ and was unable to pay it. I would be willing to try and settle the score now if I had to before bringing him over. Will unpaid debt be a deciding factor on refusal to sponsor?

Thanks again.
