Subject: HELP PLEASE :( crossing Border
Here is my dilemna. I went to vacation in the US from Canada back in 2002. My friends and I drove across the border. At that time you did not need a passport. We flashed our id´s and away we went, no I-94, no nothing. I ended up staying with some family friends for just over a year, and then I flew back to Canada.

I have lived in Canada ever since and have not travelled back to the US.

I have a vacation booked to the US for next month and I am now wondering if this will cause a problem when I try to clear customs at the airport with my new passport?

You were technically banned from the US for 5 years because you overstayed by more than 180 days. No one here can tell you for certain if you will run into problems at the border or not. You´ll just have to try and see what happens. I would bring documents that prove you have strong ties to Canada just in case.

How do you think they would have tracked my entry?

How do they know I did not enter and leave a hundred times?

Be practical about it. Just grab your docs and head out... And don´t be jittery and spill the beans about your own overstay! LOL... Good luck. And let us know how it went when you return from vacation (after one year?)

I don´t think you would face any problem at all. You said you just flashed your card. So, I presume they didn´t take record of you entering their country. How would they know how long you´d stayed there when they didn´t have record of entry? Just stay calm. You´ll be alright.
