Subject: Spouse visiting while sponsorship is processing?
I live in Canada and my girlfriend lives in the US. We´re thinking of getting married and then I´d sponsor her so she could live here with me. Would we be able to...
a) Use the application form that states that she lives outside of Canada for a shorter processing time?
b) Have her visit me for 6 months while the application is processing?
c) Get an extension on her visit so she could remain with me until it´s done?

Is this something that might be likely to work?

If she maintains a residence in the USA that is where she resides and should be listed on the schedule one.

If she visits someone in Spain, Denmark or Canada that is not required to be recorded on any form. She is only visiting for a temporary period of time.

a) Yes. Definitely do outland - not inland. You could be done in four months.
b) She should be able to do this (no guarantees). Keep in mind that she is only allowed to "visit" - not "live". Consequently showing up at the border with all of her belongings is a very bad idea and she should be able to demonstrate when she plans to return (e.g. have a return flight six months out).
c) She can apply. Again, no guarantees she will get the extension.

Focus on proving the marriage/relationship.

Do not even think about extending any visitor status. Drive across the border and back a few days later. Remember they have plate readers so they will know when that vehicle crossed aka left.

Remember common sense rules.

Well, our intentions would be for her to stay with me forever as a couple. Of course, we´d still have to be prepared for a scenario where we can´t get an extension and she´d have to go back, e.g. having a flight booked for her trip back - that would have to be expected as the default. She probably wouldn´t bring much, so I don´t think we´d arouse suspicion with that. I heard elsewhere that it was very likely that we´d be able to get an extension if we made it clear that we intend to live together forever and had her permanent resident status processing, but I figured I should check with other sources to make sure. Of course, there are no guarantees with anything, but would you say an extension in that case would be difficult or more on the plausible side?

But what are you saying about it being bad to try and extend the visitor status? Or was that in the same thought as the following sentence, saying it would be bad to have her go back to the border and come back soon after?

One other question, would we have to do anything in advance before booking a flight for her to come here? Like, something before being allowed onto the plane at all. As I understand it, she´d need a passport, she might need a letter of invitation, documents to prove the marriage, I should be present at the airport, and we need to convince them that she´d go back when the visitor status expires. Would she need anything else to get in?

Hello, I am in the same position that you were in .
I was just wondering if you ever figured everything out.
And if so what did you end up doing?
Thank you. Any advice would be great!
