Subject: Sponsoring my wife
Hi, I am sponsoring my wife, I have all the documents ready to send and I have been talking to a social worker who assisted me in the things I needed to do and to get in order to bring my wife. Here is my question. The social worker told me that I needed to find any kind of job, so don´t relay on the wellfare anymore and therefore become able to sponsor my wife. I did so, I found this part time job which is very well paid, I work as a sub-contractor on a small business. I get paid every month depending on the amount of work available for me (as I said, it is a part-time and I work when they call me, yet I get very good money) Now, when I get paid, I only receive a paycheck and that´s all. Is this kind of payiment acceptable for the proccess? I mean, I just get a paycheck with my name and the money I earned, but there is nothing more, no T4, or any other papers at all. Is it OK if I send my application having this kind of income? Does my income have to be taxable?

I think that it would not qualify because the way you´re describing the income sounds like an "under the table" job. not good. You would need a legitimate job with taxes t4 and all.

I believe you have to actually send in proof that you are making enough money. If I remember correctly, the amount you must be making to sponsor is $20,000 before taxes. You will need to send in a document showing that you are making this ie. T4, letter from employer. Your income has to be legal, which it doesn´t sound like it is if it isn´t taxable. When I applied I was only making around $15,000 before taxes because I was on part time hours (I was in school), but my employer wrote a letter stating that when I would return to full time that I would be making more. I also had my parents write a letter stating that they would be willing to support me and my bf for as long as possible if that was needed.

there is no minimum income but you must be able to support your wife. If you are not declaring your income - how can you prove you can support your wife without admitting you are defrauding the Canadian government of taxes which is illegal.

Please play by the rules.
