Subject: on vacation b4 being on mat leave. can i sponsor?
HELLO THERE. i have been in a relationship with my fiancee for 5 years now but only long distance. so i took 6months vacation and went to see him in central America where we lived together for 8 months. In this time we got pregnant and thusly I came back to Canada on Maternity Leave and for complications we could not get married. In doing so I lost my job. and am on Mat leave (Quebec´s EI). I know they ask for employment 12 months prior to applying for sponsorship... Can i still apply with my income prior to leaving Canada ???? THANK YOU PLEASE HELP WITH ADVICE!!! its urgent for him to be here with me and our first child. PLEASE AND THANK YOU !!!

I learned this over and over in this forum.

"There is no financial requirement for sponsoring your spouse."

No more detail PERIOD.

EI is not considered as social assistance or welfare.

However you can´t sponsor him unless you are either married or common law (have lived together for at least one full year).

I don´t think you will qualify under conjugal since this is for exceptional circumstances only.

but would getting pregnant qualify as exceptional circumstances??? I didnt want to give birth there because there are alot of incidents with babies over there, So for our baby´s health I came back to give birth here.

No - being pregnant does not qualify you under the exceptional circumstances for conjugal. Conjugal is mean for couples for whom it is impossible to ever get married and impossible to ever live together for at least 12 months to establish common law.
