Subject: Work Visa While PR Application Pending
Is there anybody who applied and got a work visa to Canada while their PR application is pending in Buffalo? I need some input. I have several more months before my current contract with the US Govt expires. However, I have been searching Canada for employment for sometime and today I got hired by a Canadian Industrial Chemical Company. They will send me the documents to file for a work visa but my application for PR has been sitting in Buffalo for weeks now. Does anyone know if PR application hinders in any shape or form obtaining a work visa? I intend to walk into the Canadian Consulate in NYC ask for visa as soon as the paperwork from the Company arrives. Any useful advice what documents I might need to show them and what to watch for?

WOW. good for you! I know it works in reverse. If you are on a work permit you can apply for PR so why not the other way around. If they allow dual intent visitors visa why not a work permit. Seems logical to me. HRDC approved?

We are feeling a little jealous. Calgary?

Calgary is on hold. I think I have too much energy to think of eclipsing into retirement. These guys are blazing new ground in high tech materials science (nanotechnology) and offered me a group leadership. I am in fact so excited my mind is still in clouds! I had the final interview (teleconference) just this morning. Their human resources director said it will take 4 weeks at most to get the visa but I have to wrap up my work with the US fellas and smooth-out their displeasure about premature termination of the contract. Many folks at DOE know my state of limbo so I am sure everything will work out fine.
I am looking into ways of accelerating the PR process so I could bring it to conclusion by the middle of summer and move to Canada as a PR. I gotta figure out how to do it. If somebody done this kind of thing before, I would be grateful to hear some serious advice.

I AM PROUD TO DECLARE I AM GOING TO BE A BRAND NEW CANUCK SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it is so exciting. after wading through post after post the past few days about how backward Canada and Canadian companies are it is nice to see that we actually have some cutting edge stuff happening out there. I was beginning to think we might be delusional.

Sounds like your new company will help you solve whatever visa complications you might run in to. Congratulations.

Yes I do know people who have came to Canada on work visa and student visa while their PR application was in a queue. My very close friend is doing his PhD from University of Alberta and his application is in the queue since 2001. He is married now and his wife has joined him as well (you can bring your family on student/job visa).

Once you arrive to Canada just inform the Buffalo office about your new job and new address.

Take Care

I would like to say I had gained some insights into emigration issues since I showed up on this forum... and grateful for the fun moments and info as well. However, I might show up from time to time just to see what people are upto but you won´t be seeing me post here much any longer... I wish success to all fellas and gals dreaming about Canada. And I shall no longer be American Refuse either!!!! All is well on my front. I am at peace with myself at last and soon will have a country to call my own. Thank you ladies and gentlemen and may good things happen to you all. Never stop dreamning. I am euphoric and ecstatic, I know. Bye

Can I apply for a study permit or work permit while my immigration application is in process?

Yes. There is no legal bar to applying for a temporary status document while waiting for finalization of an immigration application.
