  To All

Well everyone will find out who their dealing with at border crossing because now CBSA staff are to wear name tags.

Well that is the story but......

During the G20 event this summer in Toronto the Police removed their name tags so they could not be identified.

Even with this picture fellow Police Officers can not identify who this Officer. WHY? Pretty clear picture.

Maybe we get to see a picture of DocD.

It just might make crossing the border a more pleasant event.

What do you think?

Name tags have been there forever. Each officer has a name tag, a batch number and a red card on the top left part of the chest attached to the vest with his/her full name and that card also opens some doors within the inspection facility.

If there is something you don´t agree with, ask the officer for his/her name and batch number.

Officers will not display their name or batch number other than their uniform in a high risk operation where displaying so, puts them in risk.

Can someone explain to me why 2 of the most similar countries in the world who are military alllies, have similar culture, share the longest border in the world, speak the same language, have the same economic system, and hold practically the same values need cold war era border controls between them?

The EU long ago dropped this silliness between their member countries. People there move freely between countries, don´t fear harrassing border officers, and have no need to find their name tags, because these arcane and senseless controls have long ago been eliminated.

It´s matter of time before that changes in Europe. The main concern in border protection isn´t the odd person who is going to stay illegaly or someone bringing an apple in a suitcase. There is alot of human trafficking, illegal weapons, drugs etc.

With all the border controls that are in place you wouldn´t believe the stuff that you see in the border crossings, I can´t imagine what our national security would be without them.

We are two separate countries and border controls are a must.
Thanks to them and shared data base, we can protect each other.

I found quite funny your expression "senseless" controls.
The day you join a federal agency, army or a military college we can sit down and talk at the same level of what is senseless or not, before then kid, keep reading the newspaper and keep thinking in John Lennon.

Wow, what a snooty response to a legitimate issue. Looks like your ad hominem comments match preconceptions people already have about your agency. Keep wearing that name tag.

In your naiveness, you´d be quite surprised with my military and border security background. On this side rather than yours. Your reaction was rather expected as protecting job security.

Nah, it always ticks me when someone in the confort of their home figures that there is a "senseless" control in both sides of the border and even better...they figure that the borders should be wide open. LOL

I am not a snooty person by any means, actually I am quite charming but I am a straight shooter, I have an issue with civilians planning on in-land protection and giving their opinions as "legimate", due to a "legimate issue".

The funny part is that the average Canadian or American with no criminal convictions, proper documentation and a clear travel plan don´t experiense any problems crossing the border (most of them anyway), the issues always happen with the 1% and those are the ones that complain about the border crossings.

Yeah, yeah, there are officers that are pricks in both sides of the border, but that has nothing to do with the goal and mission of both Homeland Security and Border Protection and CBSA.

No the EU is not going to give up freedom of movement across borders but yes some controls may be in place in exceptional circumstances (for certain nationalities which can be temporarily "problematic" when one of the member states at the external borders defaults on its obligations). As for name tags I always felt uncomfortable dealing with officers with no names. Hope the next time I show up at a POE I´ll know to whom I had the pleasure to speak with...Now about border security...Between the US and Canada...mmmmmh....a gut feeling is telling me Canada is still a major dope producer which exports its stuff across the border regardless of what ICE and CBSA do. I´m always perplexed by the incredible resilience of the smugglers supply lines. The last time I talk a US cop into the subject at a cocktail party he blushed and went on quasi-numb mode for the rest of the night visibly very embarassed (he had tried to sell us on the drug war with Columbia big time) ...Would really love to explore every square bit of forest on the Cdn border with a thermal camera, who knows... might hit the jackpot.

Richard has a valid point.

I flew into Copenhagen, Denmark instead o Germany because the light was cheaper and the car rental was half the price. As I got o the plane the border Officer waived me through without even looking in my passport.

We rented a car and headed south, way south. Each and every country we went through the border Officer waived us through and not once were we stopped.

Having an arrogant Officer ask you how many pair of panties your wife bought on your day trip to Buffalo needs to go the way of the Dinosaur.

The War on Drugs, The War on Guns, the War on Human Smuggling get a life they have been around fopr three hundred years and they will be around tomorrow and the next day, month, year, decade and generation.

What makes people feel good like Drugs will always be there for the few.

26 Occupations only as FSW´s create a situation were people will do Bogus Marriages etc. etc. to get in with a legal document.

Crimminals and Osama´s people are not stupid people they can steal a Yacht and sail across the Lake. We sailed into Haliax during Tall Ships 2000 and no CSA/Customs even visited any ship.

Give it up and go the way of the Dinosaurs.
