Subject: Landing and exit
I was recently granted PR and I expect to land in July. I think my documents will arrive at my CA address in 2-6 weeks thereafter. Can I exit Canada before the PR documents are available or do i have to remain in the country untill I receive them?

As soon as you complete your landing process at a port of entry, getting hold of your Record of Landing (IMM 1000) in handy, there is nothing in the world that would hinder you from exiting Canada.

Hi Parker,

Anonymous is correct that once you have applied for your PR card and other papers you can leave any time.

But, practically, you should stay until you receive your PR card or have someone in Canada to collect your PR Card as its not possible to send that outside of Canada through post or courier.

Best luck,
Nisha

Thank you Anonymous and Nisha. It would be difficult to close shop at home and migrate by my effective 3 month deadline (medicals expiration date), so I am planning a two stage approach of landing and returning home asap to sort out for final departure. I will have a Canadian address to collect documents.

Retaining PR Status (in reply to: Landing and exit)
We recently got our PR landing papers & we are planning to do our first entry soon (Jul 11) & within a span of a month we will be exiting back to our home country. I have a few questions, can someone please help me?
1. With regards to retaining the PR card does one need to continiuosly stay in Canada for a minimum of 2 years or is it all put together we need to stay for 2 years or more?
2. If in case of emergencies (ex: death, etc...)we have to travel back to our home country, in the middle of 2 years. Will our 2 years continious stay be broken??? in such cases what do we do???
Please answer...

why are you immigrating if you do not wish to live here?

Sharon is right, you have no reason to immigrate. If I were you, i would just continue shop-ping at home and stay away from canada. Good luck.

Sharon and Wasted, I agree that if one endures the application and screening process and is granted PR, then they should migrate. However you must appreciate that life does not remain on pause until one is granted PR. My process took 2 yrs and probably longer for others and so life circumstances can possibly change in that time. I will be landing soon but may be off to the UK in September to study on a scholarship. Does this mean I want to "stay away from Canada"??

Parker,

Dont take anything seriously, basically most of all the new immigrants come to Canada or apply for immigration and then want to go back immediately based on their job reasons that they dont want to leave their very good jobs back home and work odd jobs in Canada and this is how the CAP reaches faster than expected for the legimate people, which is very frustrating.

Another thing is its a burdensome process for canadians it self from tax and other prospects. Thats why some of the experts shows their point of view which is correct.

You might be correct in your position but just concentrate on whatever you have to do in your life and do it.

Hi Stephen,

You have to stay in Canada for 2 years out of 5 (to keep your PR alive) not necessarily continuously. Hope this will help.

Best luck,
Nisha
