Can I come back?

Subject: Can I come back?
  Hi

Almost 3 years ago, I left to take a chance in a foreign country; Canada. I had a return ticket, but I loved it so much, I did not take my flight.

I spent almost 3 wonderful years in Canada, with no papers. I stayed with my friend (non-romantic) and his family and helped out in his business in turn for room and board, an arrangement that suited us both. I am British, so did not need a visa to enter. My passport and drivers license were about to expire though, so I left "voluntarily" to come back to my home country to renew it all.

I am hoping to return to Canada soon, and my friend and his business partner have a guaranteed job lined up for me if I can come back.

But what are my chances really? Will my previous stay be held against me? I never got in trouble, not even a parking ticket. When I left, no one said anything to me as I went through passport control and such, are they not supposed to say something to me if I´ve overstayed? Like ask me what I´ve been doing in the country for 3 years?

Thank you for reading.

tell the truth. if you lie and they find out - you are hooped so apply as a skilled worker with a job offer and be done with it. It is what it is.

I am starting to believe that Anonymous **.232.244.253 is a new Lawyer or Consultant who has no idea how to answer the questions of his potential clients.

Dear John

LOL

**.232.244.253 gives bad advice and suggest others answer questions almost everyday. Bad advice and tells others to answer.

Here is my answer to this post and it is past my bedtime and I might be too grumpy.

Since when does a British citizen when they leave Canada go through Canadian Passport control, come on!!!!

They go up to the British Airlines counter and show a valid British passport with a ticket and get a boarding pass. Walk through security and get on the plane, Period!

Now if the offer of employment is in a particular province all should go smoothly. Jet did not elaborate.

Now Dear John, LOL

I and others are suppose to believe that Jet worked for the same employer for THREE YEARS for just room and board ONLY!

Come on Jet when you make up a fish story put more of an effort into it!

Jet,

It is true that there is no passport control when leaving Canada. To a point.....

However, there are other ways to determine if a person overstayed in their previous visit. So I wouldn´t hold my breath 100% on Roy´s comment.

If your friend is willing to hire you, you should apply for a work permit BEFORE you come to Canada and answer all the questions in the application with the truth.

If you are planning on coming back again and work again under the table, that alone is a terrible plan.

Next time you visit, likely the officer is going to ask you about your previous visit and your reason for visiting this time, after that things can go south in a hurry.

You are better off applying for a work permit legally from outside of Canada.

Jet you can get an open work permit (available to UK ppl) for one year and land here and work for your employer friend or some other company... and think about applying for sponsored residency during that time. Good luck.

Aye, but I don´t have an official qualification/any work experience in his work. I tried to get a permit when I landed before, and they said that any Canadian could do the job so couldn´t give me it. (but they didn´t stop me from entering)
