Since this is a discussion site I want to bring to your attention Lorrie Goldstein article in the Toronto Sun this Morning.
Stop Phony Refugees - Detain all claimants up to a year!

On the surface she has a valid point that more FSW and Trades people should be allowed in and fewer especially bogus refugee claimants.
I once said in a PRRA application to an Immigration Officer for a client of mine "I don´t understand why 48% of all refugee claimants from all countries win other than someone needs a job on Monday"!
On appeal to the Federal Court the Judge ruled that my evidence was sufficient to prove a risk to life for my client and that I made no error. Yet I got fined for my comment by my former regulator.
NOW - DETAIN ALL CLAIMANTS FOR A YEAR????
Each year Canada gets about 30,000 asylum seekers.
In Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal the cost of detaining someone is approximately $200.00 per day.
To detain 30,000 for 1 day @ $200.00 per day = $6,000.000.00
Six million times 365 days in a year would cost the Canadian Taxpayer
$2,190,000,000.00
Canada does not have weather like Miami and we can´t fence in the Gardiner to create an Immigration Detention Centre like they had in Scareface. So how much does three or four facilities cost to build?
Now the numbers would drop like a rock but what about those real asylum seekers who don´t make it here and die on the shores of another country. How would we feel?
Has to be a more logical and better way!
