Subject: Travel Insurance advise
I am immigrating from India, moving next month.

Any one´s experience for following three things?

1. For how much time is should get the Travel/Health insurance, when I am immigrating to Canada, I will be in Vancouver (BC)?

2. Any thoughts on the insurance company I should prefer?

3. Is it advisable to get the Travel/Health insurance from here, or I should get it done once I reach Canada, Vancouver (BC)?

Please guide..

Regards

Karan, as per my knowledge you can have travel insurance for maximum 180 days. I had taken overseas travel insurance from Future Generali for my parents for their world tour. They have different plans as per your needs. You can check out their website for more info - http://www.futuregenerali.in/GeneralInsurance/RetailProducts/TravelInsurance/TravelSuraksha.aspx

There are many options for travel medical insurance. I would suggest that you do your homework and get a lot of quotes from several different companies. Premiums will vary based on past health conditions, but should discourage you. You will be able to find something!

1. You will have a three month waiting period before you are covered by the provincial coverage(MSP) after you land Canada. So you should get three months period policy.

2.You can get the free quotes with different deductibles and choose the best option suits your need.

3.You should get it before your arrival otherwise there is a 48 hours waiting period before the insurance gets in effect.
