I have moved to Canada from the US to work, and am planning on selling my car as mass transit makes it´s a bit unnecessary. But i´ve heard that I cannot sell my car in Canada because it´s a US asset or some such...

no way, I do check out car from U.S for persoanl sell too.
Do you think Canada has mass transit, depend on where do you go. I think you can´t live without car in the whole North America

TORONTO...
Toronto has the best transit system int he whole north America...
Although its different that you may have to wait like 25 to 30 minutes for some buses but still the general idea that the whole city´s nook and corner are covered is amazing...
There is no city in north america that can be so well covered...
I love Toronto...

I see, that´s why, if you live outside Toronto, it´s hardly believe you can do this way or not, you for sure need a car

See it all depends...
Have you already imported the car to canada? There is a VERY specific proceedure regarding this. If it is not up to Canadian spec, has metric gauges, Canadian registration, etc... you cannot sell it up here.
If you plan to do all this, just to sell it you will first have to pay to import it to Canada, which includes:
Paying 7% GST on current market value
Paying $180 paperwork fee
Paying to have guages changed to metric
Notifying the USA of permanent exportation
Proof of passing Canadian emissions, etc...
Its not easy and can be very expensive. If you want to get rid of the car I recomend you sell it back in the USA. Take what you can get for it and cut your losses. I´m currently in the same situation with my truck and am still debating on whether I will sell it in the USA or just import it to Canada and keep it... tough decision.
