Subject: calling and faxing about file status
I pulled this off the Paris embassy website.

´please refer to the processing times indicated in the "acknowledgment of receipt" letter. We will not respond to status enquiries for cases being processed within those standards.

PLEASE NOTE: At each step of the processing of an application, when a decision is made, this is indicated by the e-client Application Status Service as a letter having been sent. Please read this as meaning that a letter will be sent by our service within 4 to 6 weeks from the date of the decision. ´

My AOR does not have any estimate of processing time nor service standards, but it says that they don´t reply to faxes before the immigration has gone through the inital assesment. I´ve seen some applicants reporting an estimated processing time.

However, I think that information is irrelcant. They can set that processing time/service standar for 2 years, in that way, they just protect themselves and simply don´t reply. This might be particularly the case in Buffalo, if not the busiest, one of the busiest RPCs in the world.

My file is being treated by the Paris Office. My case is a special one as I had to make an appeal which was granted in Nov. 2004. The minister´s counsel at my hearing told me I would hear something from Paris within a month. The only letter I received was from the IAD which was the decision of the hearing. I contacted my case worker at the IAD and he told me to contact the Paris office. On Monday, a fax was sent and today (Friday) I received an answer from them, telling me they haven´t received my file back from Toronto. This is just to inform you that they do answer you, if you provide all the necessary information they request but only if it is outside the normal processing times.

Paris seems to be the exception to the rule in terms of service. We have had excellent interaction with them - including direct phone calls. Ozz... I think you are right about Buffalo. They are swamped. I think they are the busiest embassy - period.

Sharon, I compared Buffalo and Detroit Consulates today. According to the information given in their web pages, they are similar in the number of staff employed. Big difference? Well, in Detroit you can see the email address of the immigration officers!!! You can contact them... Of course, who cares about those guys!!! I agree that in Buffalo they don´t report their email address, because they would be getting tons of emails!

The point is: If Buffalo is the busiest consulate, why doesn´t the Canadian Government allocate more funds and hire more people in this place? Or let them share the workload with Detroit, LA, New York, etc? Just in the same way they share the applications for temporary resident visa?

I guess there is not use in thinking about ways to fix the system when there is not political base within Canada to generate reforms to the immigration system. I mean, who cares about immigration in Canada, other than the few relatives that sponsor? It´s not part of the political agenda of any MP. Gay marriage spurs more interest than immigration.

What the heck, I will keep drinking my booze to forget about this bullshit.

John;

Micheal is our Officer. we went through the general switchboard, through the maize of hold please, I will transfer you... blah, blah, blah but after almost 30 minutes we got to the right person. We have even had them instigate a few calls! Now, having said that...we had a problem with our file - they closed it because they never got some documents that we sent - so it was not a general inquiry.

Sharon,
Good to hear there´s actually a "real" person
working on your file :) Well, I have to admit,
I brought my application to Paris in person and
the lady behind the (bulletproof) glass was real
friendly.
I´m only in an early post-AOR stage, so I might
wait a bit longer before calling them.

Oh, and btw, there are 3 letters next to my file #
(EQB) are those the initials of the handling officer ?
