Subject: Sharon, I need your advice.
  Dear Sharon,

I´ve been reading this forum and I consider your replies to immigration queries very informative. I will appreciate if you can answer to my query as well. Here´s mine.

I had a pending H1B (work authorization permit) in the US when I applied for Canada under the skilled worker category. I am a social service practitioner in the US with more than 4 years career experience assisting medically frail homeless people (to include people with HIV/AIDS). INS denied my application stating that my academic experience has nothing to do with social work. I have two BA´s and one Master´s degree. I am a trained family mediator in the US. I have trainings in HIV/AIDS care and prevention.

When I received my initial assessment, I was informed that my interview was waived, I received instructions to undergo the FBI fingerprinting and medical. Both were done successfully and results submitted to CIC Buffalo.

I am now waiting for my passport request letter. Actually I´ve been waiting for over 7 months now. I was asked to submit additional documents. These were submitted last week. I am deeply worried because of my pending H1B situation with the INS. What do you think of my possibility of getting the coveted passport request letter? I sent my resume to various social service agencies in Vancouver and Toronto and received very good responses. I can´t wait to practice my profession in Canada.

Please advice.

Thank you very much,

Jay

I am hearing that Buffalo is very busy. My guess is that they are waiting on your final background check. I cannot predict when PP requests should come. maybe there is another poster with direct experience.

Jay, what nationality are you? The background check depends on your nationality a lot.
