I am not interested in millionaires coming to Canada with their cash simply looking for a safe haven. They buy up real estate so you and your kids can no longer afford to live in your own town. They don´t create jobs, they don´t participate in our society, and they will leave as fast as they come when the opportunity appears better somewhere else. China, Europe... I don´t care where they are from - the problem is the same.

Sorry Roy, I am not with you on this one. We are already living the calamity in Vancouver. Ottawa can live without the cash.

Roy want as many immigrants to come to Canada as possible. Preferably those that require his help.
If you follow his posts closely, he is trying to paint a rosy picture for potential immigrants.

I would not go that far SG.

Roy has a passion for helping people and is living in a world that is totally focused on immigration issues. He is also not a big fan of the current conservative government. I cannot fault him for any of those things.

My comment was simply to point out that the article he presented was not very balanced in its approach.

Agree with both Sharon and SG.
Careful with cash-loaded immigrants. Sometimes they just want to keep their money safe, away from taxes. Besides, anyone has forgotten millenium´s soaring house prices in Vancouver? They came, caused soaring house prices, and some of them have returned to their country now.

it´s still happening in Vancouver and Richmond. Pockets of both city´s are priced way out of whack. $500,000 over asking? really. Why... because some offshore investor wants to make sure they can get their money out of their home country and breath clean air.

How is a regular Joe Canadian supposed to pay for a $2.5 million dollar house on a $65,000 median income.

Sorry Roy, Vancouver is not interested in becoming Palm Springs.

Well I should of been clearer. Not that the Investor Class applicants can not afford processing fees it is that the Conservative government aka CIC took all those application fees and has no intention of processing the applications.

Here is my clearer point.

Quote" Versteegh said there are about 22,491 millionaire investors worldwide who’ve applied and are waiting to come to Canada.

They’ll bring about 77,800 family members with them."

22,491 applicants X 2 their partner = 44,981 ADULT APPLICANTS

44,981 X 4550.00 = 24,740,100.00

THEN THEIR DEPENDENTS

77,800 MINUS 44,981 = 32,819 CHILDREN IN THEORY.

32,819 AT $150.00 PROCESSING FEES EACH CHILD EQUALS $4,922,850.00

$4,922,850.00 PLUS $24,740,100.00 = TWENTY NINE MILLION, SIX HUNDRED AND SIXTY TWO THOUSAND, NINE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS OF PROCESSING FEES PAID AND THEY HAVE NO INTENTION OF PROCESSING ANY OF THESE APPLICATIONS.

If Canada paid some country $29,662,950.00 for something that was never delivered I would be mad as hell as a tax payer.

NO ONE SHOULD CHARGE FOR A SERVICE AND NOT DELIVER.

According to your calculation, we will have 44,981 (adult applicants) + 32,819 (children) = 77,800 applicants. Total money per applicants => 29,662,950 / 77,800 = $381.27. Wellllll, that´s a lot per applicant for a one time payment????

Allow me to give you another calculation :-

Ontario Child Benefit Payments $91.66/month per child => $91.66 x 2 (2 children) x 12 months = $2199.84 per year. How much do you think they will cost us if they use use govertment services like health care?

You are a simple man with absolutely no idea how to differentiate between asset and liability. Most "investor" prefer to loan the money to the government at no interest for a period of time. The benefits they´ll get will greatly cover the interest they lost.

I absolutely agree! (in reply to: MORE THAN 22,500 FOREIGN MILLIONAIRES ARE WAI...)
Very wealthy immigrants have made it imposible for the medium class born canadian immigrant to acquire real estate. The worse part is that when you are renting you are paying their morgage but it is difficult to qualify on our own to get a loan from a bank.

All of you myopic losers need to know that once the rich declare their wealth, they are expected to move it to Canada after arrival or continue to pay world income tax on all earnings, if they move their monies to Canada, they certainly can´t use Canada as tax haven (I have a US man who is always in foul mood at the end of April, after sendinf a heft check to CRA).... so don´t say Canada is a tax-haven, which it inot; if aanything CRA extracts a lot more cash than most other nations.
