Subject: Motor insurance in Canada
Hi all - any help would be appreciated. I´m a newly landed permanent resident of Ontario and all is going well - until I tried to get insured on my wife´s car that is. They wanted to double her premium, even though she has 9 years no claims bonus and I have 6 from the UK. Is it correct that I will be considered a new driver in Canada and as such pay the same rates as a 16 year old with no experience?

Can anyone recommend any insurance companies or brokers who will charge sensible rates for new permanent residents?

Thanks!

Try this: https://www.caasco.com/insurance/auto-quote.jsp
I was quoted $3600 from a different company first, then $2400, until I got here and now am paying a lot less.

My husband is from the UK and we had the same issue. He took driver´s education classes and that helped bring it down significantly, and then it has decreased every year since.

In a new country, even credit rating starts from scratch.

No credit history in Canada.

No driver mileage in Canada.

Welcome to the new country.
