Subject: COST OF LIVING IN ALBERTA
I have just been offered a job in Red Deer in Alberta, after deductions i will receive $3400 a month. Is this enough to survive on 2 adults 2 kids aged 5 and 1. We have tried to do the sums but it doesn´t seem enough after we calculate for RENT, UTILITIES, CAR INSURANCE, FOOD, CLOTHES, PETROL etc. Can anyone share what they survive on or live comfortably on.

Canada is an expensive country. Cost of living is high. $41K net will be tight for a family of 4, especially in Alberta (in particular Calgary), although not impossible. There may be social assistance programs available, and at least your government health care is nearly free.

Candians from that region may have a better perspective.

It would be tight, especially with regards to having children. We all know that they will begin to cost more as time progresses and they grow up. Can you company give you any assistance. Many time, companies will help with finding movers, housing, etc. This might something to ask for since you are having to relocate.
