I know all of you have more specific questions, but I really do need help. My boyfriend wants to come and live here with me in Canada. He is a US Citizen in excellent standing. He is willing to purchase a home here, but we want him here legally. I read of landed immigrant status but I don´t know how he obtains that, than applying for a SIN to apply for work, but Im not sure that it would allow him to live here legally, and we want to do this right. At this time I cannot sponsor him as a common law spouse, or finace as I am only legally separated, and not divorced yet. Im sure all of you have much advice and believe me I will apppreciate any and all you can tell us on the best way to handle our situation. Thanks Susan

These are his options to come:

1. If he an undergraduate + has worked in that area for 4-5 years he can apply as independent class - will take 12-15 months.

2. If he is rich (can spare 250,000 US$) can come in as a business investor class - will take 6-8 months and some lawyer to apply.

3. If you can secure him a job - he can come as an independent (max 6 months).

There are your options.

Susan, do you have friends or yourself have a business? If so, just hire him and write a accept letter, then he can go to apply work permit, at least you guys have chance to be together legally, then at the same time do immigration stuff. If he has money to buy a property, I do believe he can be a business class immigrant.
Good luck
