Subject: Sponsering new born as Canadian Immigrant
  Hi,
I, my wife and child are all Canadian Immigrant and we got our PR card Aug 2010. At the moment we are living in Gulf with iniitial plan to move Cananda permanently in early 2013. Now we are expecting another child in our family. I have few question related to our immigration:

1- If we have our baby born outside Canada, I suppose one of the Immigrant (in this case me) need to be in Canada and sponser under dependent child catergory. If its correct? How long it will take normaly to get the immigrant status for new child?

2- Other option is to move Canada as complete family before delivery, keeping in mind that it will take 3 months for Medical Card (Ontario). Is their any possibility to get medical card early? or avoid expensis without medical card? Its too expensive for new commer to afford medical expensis.

Will appreciate your comments to help us making our plan.

Now pay me now or pay me later, goes the saying.

What were you thinking?

Immigrating to Canada then both of you going back and continuing expanding your family.

Option 1
Plain and simple get back here have the child and pay your hospital bills. The hospital might overlook it.

Option 2
Have the baby there.
Seek out a Temporary Resident Permit to overcome the babies inadmissibility and bring the baby back to Canada, good luck.

Option 3
Have the Baby there leave it behind and return to Canada. Then sponsor your child once you are able to get an Option "C" which shows you are residing in Canada and paid taxes. Might be difficult.

Two and Three may make it obvious that you never intended to reside in Canada in the first place and they may take away your permanent residency.

Most women are pregnant for nine months so why are you asking about this now?

Oh I forgot (money) because you have not been residing in Canada for at least seven months. Sympathy from CBSA/CIC not likely.

Thanks Roy,
Some good input for us to decide.
Well... forget to mention that we are expecting baby in July 2012.. so still its early days.

So we have to writeoff Option 2 & 3 due to simple reason that, either of these option may take away our PR status.
With option 1, still we can have health Card before delivery.. Just wanted to delay our move till maximum as its not easy to leave one country to other for good in couple of months time, specially with the present job situation (another story)..

´The hospital might overlook it´.. what do you mean by this? Is it a standard practice??

Hi,

Pursuant to A28(2), a permanent resident complies with the residency obligation provisions with respect to a five-year period if, for at least 730 days (2 years) in that five-year period, the permanent resident is physically present in Canada.

In other words, as long as you can prove that you have spent 730 days physically present in Canada in the past 5 years you will maintain your PR status and consequently your ability to sponsor your child.

Yes you will have to be in Canada to sponsor your child or you can start the sponsorship process before you return to Canada however visa officer must be satisfied that you will be returning to Canada before your child is granted PR status.

Don´t worry about the 3 months thing (MSP waiting period) no one will turn you away from the hospital if your wife is going to give birth to the baby.

You should arrange for private coverage during the period you are waiting for MSP to become effective. Normally, the waiting period consists of the balance of the month of your arrival, plus two months.

DCIS Global Campus Plan is one of many insurance companies out there, as of July 1, 2011, the total cost of coverage for the MSP waiting period (up to three months) is $180 for a single person, $360 for couples coverage and $450 for a family of 3 or more (http://www.david-cummings.com/ubccampus/enrolment/index.htm)

hope this helps,

query (in reply to: Sponsering new born as Canadian Immigrant)
Hi!

I have a similar case.
We got our PR status in Jan 2010,but due to circumstances came back to India in March 2010.
My daughter was born in India in July 2010.
Now ,we plan to permanently move to Canada and I wish to apply for sponsorship of my daughter.
I need some guidance on what forms are to be filled and what are the other requirements and how long the whole process would take .
Also I need to know if I have to be there for full time till me child gets the PR visa or I can come back to take the family along?

Please guide.

Would like some input (in reply to: Sponsering new born as Canadian Immigrant)
Hello everyone.

I am a canadian Citizen my wife and step daughter are permanent residents and our youngest daughter is a Canadian Citizen. We are expecting another child in a few weeks.

We came to the Philippines for a few months to visit family here. We were intending of returning to Canada but due to some minor complications with my wifes pregnancy we were advised perhaps not to fly back to Canada. So for the safety of the baby We had to cancel our flights and now have to have the baby here in the philippines.

What is the best way to approach this situation as I will be staying here of course to support my wife. Do I just apply here through the Canadian Embassy visa dept??
