Subject: H & C approved/ question
Hi, I was approved based on H & C grounds and currently waiting for my PR application to finalize. I would like to know what is my status in Canada now after my H & C was approved. Any helpful answer is appreciated, Thank you.

NO STATUS (in reply to: H & C approved/ question)
Being approved in principle DOES NOT confer temporary resident status!

Don´t drink and drive and have a safe holiday!

Hi, Thanks for your feedback. I´m applying to Universities with the Ontario Universities´ Application Centre, it requires me to input my status in Canada. There are 4 sections: Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, Study Permit and Other. Under "Other" there are: convention refugee( protected person), Refugee, Visitor, Diplomatic, and No Status. I know I´m under the "Other" section, but I do not know what exactly is my status. Based on H & C approval, am I considered a convention refugee or am I still refugee? Thanks again, and Happy New Year!

I know it´s confusing. My advise would be to contact the admission office and show them approval letter. Convince them that u will get pr in at the end of the year. By the way may I ask u when did u apply & when did u get the approval letter?

Thanks for the advice Hafif. I applied on 2005 and received my approval on August 1, 2011. I submitted all the required documents (medical, police certificates, finger printing etc.). At the moment I need to renew my passport to get the PR card.

On the determination letter, it states that my exemption was granted due to hardship I would face if I had to leave Canada and apply from outside of the country. Does that mean I´m a protected person?

Assuming you´re referring to the right of permanent residence fee and yes they will request it. It was requested about 2 weeks after the determination letter.

Hi, you have 30 days to turn in the medical and police certificate. It shouldnt be a problem if you applied for them asap, the moment you received the package that outlined the instructions. I understand your feelings, our application took a long time also. However, we should be glad for what was given; think about the people who did not get approved. Cheers and good luck.
