| Subject: On work permit, when can I apply for PR? |

Myself and my wife (Indian Citizens) arrived in BC, Canada at the beginning of April 2011 on work permit status. I have been working since then with my current employer.
I am in to IT and have already spent 11 months in Canada.
Further, I have already visited the http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/ website and looked for the information.
At the moment I am tied to my work permit and hence with my employer.
Questions:
1) When can I apply?
2) How can I apply for PR?
3) How long does it takes?
I have heard that the IT workers are not eligible for PR at the moment. Is this true?

One route is Canadian Experience Class. Assuming your job is classified as "skilled" you will qualify to apply after you have two years of work experience in Canada. More information here:

Processing time is 15 months.

I would be eligible to apply under the Canadian experience class only after I have 2 years of Canadian work experience which I don’t have at the moment.
I would like to apply now. How do I do that?

you can apply outside of Canada as a federal skilled worker - right now, assuming your skills are on the list and you qualify.

Check with the province and see if you are elegible under the Provincial Nominee Program.
