Subject: applying for criminal rehabilitation
I need advice and assistance. I am a US citizen married to a canadian woman and for the last 7 years have travelled back and forth to canada with and without her with no issues. I have also travelled internationally on business for the last 20 years with no issues. We also rent an apartment in Ottawa for our frequent visits and our/her Grand Daughter to use as she attends Ottawa University. My troubles began when last month we were crossing with furniture we were going to store in Ottawa while we looked for someplace in the US closer to the border. I was honest about the fact we were renting a second apt in Canada and clear that I was not looking to immigrate to Canada. However that kicked me over to Canadian immigration who pulled up an FBI fingerprint file showing 2 prior offenses in the US. One was a civil offense from 2011 which had been dismissed. The second was a drug offense from 1978 which did not show clearly the disposition. I was denied entry and told I needed to find proof of disposition. Without going into how difficult that was we finally did get proof of 1 year unsupervised probation. However, I now have to apply for criminal rehabilitation to get back in to Canada. Without moaning and groaning too much I will state that I had no record prior and 34 years since in which I have been blessed with much success in business and in raising 2 wonderful and law abiding children. I have served on many boards and foundations and know I have been rehabilitated. My question is regarding the process and if there are ways to expidite the process as I have heard it could take years? I´m not trying to get sympathy just trying to find a solution. Any help is appreciated.
