Subject: Is immigration consultant required?
While waiting for the rejection of our old federal worker application (according to Canada government decision) my wife is going to apply for a study permit. I think that it will be obvious for CIC that we are looking for another way to enter Canada. Do we have a chance? Can immigration consultant help much?

I see something abnormal with this post.

So you waited five or six years and now your wife will be seeking entry for a temporary period as a student, hmmmmm.

After 5-6 years of waiting not looking at any other options all of a sudden it is student permit time and posting here about whether or not a Consultant would be of assistance.

Sure smells like Consultant bashing time.

Most provinces have a PNP programs that offer Permanent Residents to students who graduate. The Federal government has the CEC (Canadian Experience Class) program which will allow students to seek Permanent Resident status based on their studies in Canada.

Now after all this time of "doing nothing" you now want to research if a Consultant and NOT a Lawyer would be of assistance to your wife seeking temporary status.

I suggest that you have made so many mistakes by not reviewing the options available to you and your family in the past that anyone would be of great assistance to you.

Roy,

I have a lawyer that 5 years ago filled my application, and since then every time I asked him what’s going on, he answered “wait a little more, next year it happens for sure”. Last summer I’ve been in Canada and took a consultation with another lawyer. After one hour discussion he told me, you were waiting almost 5 years, so wait one more and you will get it. So where is my mistake?

A few words about the study: the original plan was to start studying after the arrival.

The only thing that we want now is to come to Canada (Calgary, we do not want to move from province to province for a next few years) by this fall and having study permit try to do something locally. And I do not want to pay lawyer for PR now, I want to go step by step, get a study permit now, get a temporary working permit there, and after working there a year or so apply for PR. I do not have a problem to pay for each step separately but I do not want to wait.
Do you know a lawyer that will be ready to take care for particular steps I the described above? I saw only lawyers that either suggest one time consultation or the entire process assistance.

Thanks,
Mike

I feel you should do your due diligence since you have settled on Alberta as your province of choice.

What most potential Immigrants do not understand is that just because the Guy/Gal - Lawyer/Consultant has a fancy car/office, website and a nice suit there is no reason to believe the sales pitch.

The best question to ask any representative is Can you please give me three valid reasons why I should retain you over ABC representative?

So you applied as a FSW and therefore should have work experience. If you have picked Alberta you probably know there is work available in your occupation.

Read the information carefully there might be a position already available for you.
