Subject: moving to quebec is a better option?
  Hi All,

I am a Textile graduate with 6years exp in garment manufacturing industry from India. Now I am planning to make a move to Quebec through quebec skilled visa. pls give your suggestions on below.
1.Cost of living?
2.Racism?
3.Safety?
4.Job opportunity in my field or any new field or unskilled work category?
5.English alone is manageable?
6.Any other important things to consider if planning to move to quebec?

Thanks in advance for all your valuable suggestions.

Regards,
Suresh

English alone is not manageable. That´s your first problem. To qualify for the Quebec skilled worker program, you must know French and must take a test to prove you know French as part of the application process.

Forget Quebec (in reply to: moving to quebec is a better option?)
Immigrants do better in either Ontario or the Western provinces. Quebec is still a very racist province. Even born english canadians face laboral discrimination there. You would be getting a shitty poorly payed job in Quebec. Plus you must speak Quebecoise french.

hi vitorelli,
thanks. actually i will be eligible/will be able to apply only for quebec as i don´t hav any employer sponsor as like rwquired in federal immigration visa process! but how about montreal in quebec? i heard more Indians are there in Montreal. is that true?

Vitorelli, you are so wrong and ignorant! I am Anglophone and have lived in Quebec ever since I landed a few years ago. Racism in Quebec is like everywhere else in Canada, and the job market isn´t as gloomy as you´ve made it out to be. What obtains here obtains everywhere else. Quebecois French is but an option. I speak some French (standard French, that is) and I´m all good. FYI: I speak English at work! Get your facts right next time before coming on here with distorted stereotypical views.

No, Quebec is not a good option, racist government, Language police, poor health care, poor economy due to the language laws. I would choose Ontario.
