Subject: Travel to Canada on PR Passport Expiry in 1 month
  Hello All,

I have received Canadian PR but my passport Expiry is in 25 July 2012.
I plan to travel from Mumbai, India to Toronto, Canada on 1st week of July, 2012. I came to know that one cannot travel during last 6 six months when your passport is about to expire.
In my case, it’s a PR one time entry visa. Can you please advice if I will have any issues to travel during last month of expiry to Canada? Is there any letter (clearance letter) that I need to get from Canada or India Embassy for this travel?

Please advice. Thank you very much for your time.

You have been trying to Immigrate for HOW LONG and you let your passport virtually expire?

When was your visa issued? CIC would not issue you a Visa with one month remaining on your passport.

Get a renewal NOW or take a real fast boat.

Thanks Roy for getting back.

I got PR visa on Apr 30, 2012. Since my passport is expiring on 25 July; I got Visa expiry date 25 July.

I just want to know if there is any problem if I travel to Canada on 2nd of July and I plan to renew my PP once I land their in Canada.

Kindly advice.

In your case, your passport is good to enter Canada. The problem could be any connection in a different country where they may require a minimum of 6 months left.

You have to enter Canada BEFORE your passport expires though.

Just to be clear, you haven´t received a PR status yet. You have an immigrant visa in your passport.

Hi DocD,
Thanks a lot. That is a big relief to me.

Yes you are right, I have Immigrant visa as of now and not an PR. So no need renew passport in India. I can do it once I land in Canada.

Thanks much for the information.

I would recommend that you work with an immigration lawyer to take care of this, especially when you´re trying to deal with your PR status. This makes the process much smoother, feel free to visit http://www.migrationlaw.com

I have to travel to Canada to pick up my daughter & granddaughter at the Ottawa airport on 07/27/2012 and return them on 08/06/2012. I just found out my passport expired 04/06/2012 and my husband expired 05/06/2012. Will I be able to enter and leave Canada with them being expired? Is there a grace period that Canada allows. Or please tell me what I can do. Thank you.

Travel to Canada on Immigration Visa - Passport expiry in 3 months (in reply to: Travel to Canada on PR Passport Expiry in 1 month)
I have exact same case as Sohum (Origional Poster) and would like to know what happen with him?

In my case, Indian Passport expires (Aug 2013) within 3 months from travelling date (May 2013). Planning to travel from Ahmedabad via Mumbai-London to Ottawa.

I heard Indian Immigration or Airport authority may not allow to board to flight because of passport validy is less than 6 months.

How to confirm that there will not be an issue?
Any process to get approval for travel? if yes, who should provide the approval?

Thanks
