Subject: Today, I was finalizing my list of goods to f...
Today, I was finalizing my list of goods to follow, but I saw there are some items that I have no idea how to call or classify them (due to my poor English!)

A- It?s appreciated if someone could help me with wording of the following items:

1-Bathroom nick-nacks
2-Make-up stuff
3-Sartorial and tailoring tools (just the kind of normal stuff used in every family and not professional)
4-Camping Tools OR Accessories
5-Mountain Climbing Tools OR Accessories
6-Sports & Exercise tools
7-4 Framed ?engraved pictures? (I?m just trying to say, 4 different pictures of a scenery which is not painted but it?s made by different pieces of wood layers)
8-Due to large amount of clothes that we have, I?d like to classify them into A- Winter Clothes B-Summer Clothes and D-Shows/boots/sneakers, but what can I call the group in which I put items such as (underwear, gloves, socks, stockings, hats, belts, panties and?) can I just call it ? Different Clothes?

B- Is it possible to add the following items to the list of goods to follow:
1-Foods (such as local spices, sauces and seasonings)
2-Local medicine and herbs

C- In my list of goods to follow, I have divided the goods into different categories and count them as BOX. But there are some items such as, Sofa, Chair, Table, Beds? that I don?t know how to count them as BOX?

Thanks for any advice

Yijie has a point. sometimes the cost of shipping is more than the cost of replacing things. First priority to bring are things not likely available in Canada and keepsakes. Also, make sure your suitcase contains some warm clothing for those first days of adjustment. Many immigrants take advantage of our second hand stores where you can set up housekeeping with used items for a very reasonable price.

Hey Raska...

Where are you travelling from...

If you are from the US you can take the help of the movers who will do most of the packing for you and deliever the goods in a week or so... In this case make sure you mention them as used personal goods so you dont have to pay duty when you come to Canada.

Second thing... You can classify the other things as misc items. and in the Misc items list just put down the list of all the stuff you cant fit into your list...

As long as you have a good comprehensive list of items you are bringing in the country the custom officer will not bother you much... The idea is to see a list of things you are bringing and not a well organized list...

So be relax and enjoy...

I used to think like that when came to Canada first time. If you do a little calculation, it actually didn?t save lots of money. Like how much stuff you can bring? Most airlines only allow 64KG for luggage. I am kind of regret I didn?t bring a lot of family belonging, like family photo stuff. Depend on where do you live, some of stuff like cosmetics actually its cheaper in Canada than most of East Asian country I have been.

I strongly disagree you guys bring food to Canada, how much food can you bring? You can buy anything in grocery store. Tell you the truth, I didn?t changed my eating habit since I came to Canada, Because I can buy at least 90% of seasoning and Chinese grocery in Real Canadian Superstore.

If you are talking about cloth and furniture stuff, you can actually get them from Thrifty Shop, like Salvation Army and Value Village. I still remember when I did my thesis presentation, and most of business meeting here, my suit actually only costs two dollars and forty-five cents including tax. All my furniture was picked up from garage sale and some recycle depot. I am not sure about certain culture, if they mind use second hand stuff. I know my culture, Asian do mind to use second hand, however, I don?t really care about this. Like my uncle lives in Richmond, they think I am crazy to use 800 dollars car second hand stuff everywhere. However, who cares? At least car is running, stuff is using, my town Nanaimo, a little town, who cares?
