Subject: Sponsoring spouse with child
  Hi,

I have a question regarding sponsoring my husband that I hope you can help me with. He is in the Philippines. I am a Canadian citizen and I am married with my husband for a year now but we have been together 11 years prior to getting married. Before we met some 12-13 years ago, he fathered a child and a year later, he and his ex-girlfriend broke up. The ex-girlfriend is now estranged from him and in fact, he hasn´t seen his son for more than ten years since they broke up. My questions is, should we include in the application form that he has a child? The child does not fit the description of "dependent" because his son is with the ex-girlfriend and the mother has cut all communication between them, therefore, he is not supporting him. My dilemma though is that on the birth and baptismal certificate of the child, my husband was listed as the father. This means that there are records that states he has a son. I´m afraid it will complicate the processing or the requirements...

Please advice urgently. Thank you.

Maia

If he has a son then you need to include the son on the application regardless. IF he has no means of getting in contact with the son for medicals etc then he should explain that to CIC and have documentation to proof that he has actually tried to contact the child and was unsuccessful. I he does not includ ethe child he is misrepresenting himself and also if things should change he would never be able to sponsor the child. This may slow the application down but better safe than sorry
