Subject: Sponsoring my disabled dependent child's spouse
I have a dependent child 24 years of age. Both my child and I are Canadian citizens. The child is my dependent due to a disability. Recently my child got married abroad in Asia. My dependent child has no income. I want to sponsor my disabled dependent child´s spouse to immigrate to Canada and live with my child. Can this be done? Please advise how to apply.

No you can´t, you do not qualify as a sponsor. Your child is a grown man who is married. He would have to be the sponsor not you.

You are telling me that your child is a dependent of yours due to his disability yet he got married and you want to bring his "spouse to look after him" and you are the one supporting him and intending to sponsor his spouse?

Do you see anything wrong with this picture?

Good luck trying to pass this one through CIC.

Agreed with DocD - you can´t sponsor or be a co-sponsor.

Your child is the one who must sponsor his/her spouse.

The question is whether a disabled Canadian citizen can sponsor a spouse.

Yes, they can as long as they do not receive government financial assistance for reasons other than a disability.

It´s at the hands of the 24 year old, but he will need some support from Don.

Well for once I agree with Anonymous **.233.249.198 and I have not even had my morning coffee!

What one calls good food another might call it mush. It is all in an interpretation of the word "disabled"!

Ontario has the "Ontario Disability Support Program" (ODSP) which is for people who have disabilities or can´t work full time due to an injury etc. This is not welfare.

DocD are you saying like some from the early forty´s that the disabled can´t function enough or they can´t Love another so they should be treated differently? The Charter says EVERYONE must be treated equally so does the Immigration Act.

Now if his spouse is employable it makes more sense bringing this loving couple together for their future so Mom who will not be around for ever so his wife will assist with giving him quality of life and vice versa.

Roy,
It is not what Don said. The question here is if Don can or can´t sponsor his son´s wife to come to Canada.
It is that simple.

Either way.....good luck.

DocD

All posts are greatly lacking in details but as you know you need to read through the lines.

Dependent son is 24 and has "No Income".

Each province has a similar program to Ontario´s ODSP and supports Income and for others is their only Income. Don loves her son and supports him because they reside together probably.

Possibly Don felt insufficient income to support a spouse therefore she wanted to sponsor and asked her question.

We have won Spousal applications for several who are on support pensions like ODSP. Latest is a hearing impaired lady who fell in love with another hearing impaired man from the States. Husband received an offer of employment prior to submitting their application.

It takes work but when you assist in putting a loving couple together it is well worth it.
