Hi there,
I am the old DC; once upon a time was a regular visitior here; had many memorable heated debate with Sharon,Roy, Richard, Bill, Wannabe....many others...
I need an urgent help from any of you, particularly Roy about a very serious issue.
A poor guy in back home is threatened by some extremist religious groups for expressing his free thoughts about religion in his personal blog. He with many others are even about to be charged by a long forgotten blasphemy law.
Is there any way that he can apply from oberseas for a refugee status? What is the procedure?
Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Yes - he can apply from outside of Canada. However he can´t do it independently. Someone will have to sponsor him. More information here:

If he leaves his country DC and goes to the UNHCR in a different country and gets them to find him a Refugee it would be far easier. Not a good route even making a claim in Canada these days especially with all the changes made by the Minister.

Thanks for the info.
I also saw the CIC link mentioned above, but it sounds too good to be true.
Roy, could you please provide any link about how the process works? Meaning he has to go to another country and apply through UNHCR?

you have to contact united nation, from where do you write your messages? can you check a status of your application?
