Hello,

As an Australian citizen with a degree in mechanical engineering from Australian university, do I need to take IELTS exam to apply for federal skilled worker to Canada?

IELTS is mandatory for everyone who applies for the FSW program. It doesn´t matter where you are from or what education you have completed.
